So I've been riding singlespeed for about 5 years and am looking at a new frame, the question is do I go 29r or stay on 26" wheels.
I really like the look of the new Yeti Big Top 29r

Perhaps try a few first? The Yeti isn't the best - not good value for money and nice mud-collecting bridge between chainstays.

If your are (or near to) 6 ft - give it a blast.

If youre under 3 ft give it a miss.

The Salsa is one I have looked at as well, and it is very nice.
I'm 5'11 so I reckon it will be OK size wise just wondered how people had found they ride.

I don't reckon the bridge on the Yeti will be a problem as I have a Tranny and they have the slot machine chainstays and it is a similar size to the Yeti and it didn't do to badly last winter.

What sort of riding do you want it for?

I'm 5'11 and did feel big at first buy you get use to it, on the trail it just rolls over the stuff that you feel on a 26" if you know what I mean, it's like steam roller to be blunt. Not tried it with ridge forks yet.

Yes, 29" is genuinely better than 26"
It's not just a fad like singlespeeding.

I've recently gone from a 20" geared suspended inbred to an XL (21 1/2") geared rigid Swift.

First up the Swift fits a hellofa lot better. I'm 6'4", far more comfortable than my old HT and that's with the flat (narrow) bar that Sam put on it. The slight lay-back seat post / stem combo just right. Nothing flash but it works fine. No back ache in rides up to and including 4 hours, not been out for longer, yet.

Not convinced by steamroller-ing over stuff but on climbs there is more traction and I'm in the granny ring less, I'm no climber so it's noticeable. Also in the big ring a lot more than I was on the inbred, no idea why.

Kinda missing front suss but only on the rockier faster stuff here that heads down the hill, on everything else it's faster. That's probably as much to do with the fit as the wheel size.

And the paint job on the Swift was excellent, until I'd fallen off a few times anyway. Finishing on the frame is also excellent.

29ers are better than 26ers............

I've 3 of them and another on order I wouldn't go back.

The only 26er I've kept is my local shops and dog running bike
