    First lets say; We are not rich. Cheap as possible advice is wonderful thank you ! 😀

    My mother is getting on a bit and her bike is no roadie but she would like to use it to cycle to work; about 10 miles each way.

    Shes done it already a few times but complains it feels sluggish compared to the old days (go figgure)

    The bike is like this;

    I doubt she would get on with a full road bike at the age 59, and sometimes she may want to carry things, like spare clothes etc.

    The tires are 700c x40 ; These are quite big right? I can get pics?

    They are flat /smooth in the middle and nobbly on the edges.

    I was thinking it could have road tires put on it to make it go a bit smoother, faster…right?
    but would I need to replace the wheels too, or can I just fit new tires?

    any thoughts? any thoughts on cheapish tires that would be suitable for a commute on country roads with a bit of puncture protection.

    Bit more pressure as an experiment first?

    you should just be able to replace the tyres with road tyres no wheel change. But as above experiment with tyre pressure first. 40 is pretty wide, road tyres for race bikes are 23C or 25 normally.
