Looking at a bike and it can com with
Rock Shox recon silver RL air front
    Rock Shox delux select rear
    or for £200 more
    Fox 34 float awl front
    Fox float dps evil rear.
Is that much of an upgrade and is it worth it?

Big upgrade, definitely worth the extra £200 and would cost you a lot more if you bought the Fox stuff separately as aftermarket parts (i.e. not fitted to a bike).

Yes, worth it for the forks alone!

Definitely, you go from a basic fork that can’t be upgraded to a much better fork that can be upgraded to a high end fork

Not sure the rear shock is an upgrade but the forks are. I’d pay the £200 – you get a stiffer fork with better damping.

The recon silver rl has moco damping (worse than fox grip) and it also has steel upper stanchions which will be heavy.

£200 extra for a fork that Fox sell for $274

    FOX 34 AWL | 29 – 100mm

I’m going against the grain here, but bottom end Rockshox to bottom end Fox isn’t much of an upgrade.

I’d keep the 200, and looks to buy a Pile Ultimate or Select+ down the line

Isn’t that fox 34 AWL a heavy old bugger too?

I’d probably keep my money in my pocket.

A very quick Google doesn’t show me one in the UK for less than £400. There are other upgrades across the rest of the bike too. No dropper on either is a bit shit though

I’d definitely be doing it for £200.

Luckily I bought a dropper in the CRC sale for peanuts

I dunno, I have FOX 32’s and they’re way better than lower-end Rockshox stuff 100%

Ah, the 34 AWL isn’t what I thought it was. Looks like it’s essentially a Bomber z2 in Fox clothing. Uses an earlier air spring than the current fox 34 and a more simple damper.

That said, it’s still a chunk better than the Recon Silver RL

Not arguing that it’s a better fork, just that I’d be keeping my 200 quid and whatever I can sell the cheap RS for, and looking for a bargain on a Pike or Lyrik

Buy the rockshox one and get some fox 32 rhythms from merlin.

Just what I was gonna say.

I’d try to verify the weight of the Fox fork and (depending what the bike is) it’ll probably be fine, and way better than the crappy Recon (I have owned one).
