Thinking of buying a 307SW. Found the age/spec/mileage/price I want an hoping to test drive it at the weekend. Have looked around and FAP seems to be a common issue, but what else???

I have a 406 2.0 hdi but pre fap. Its been
faultless over 250k km and 14 years.
The engine is strong but all interior trim
is falling off and the paint is perished.
I did look at 307s but my mechanic mate
said they are a bit fragile.
Sadly said 406 will be scrapped next week as
spain has a 1ke scrappage scheme against
    new cars.
Half tempted to keep it to see how long it lasts.

I took the air filter cover off once and a gremlin shouted BOO

Thanks. Knew an old 306 that was bombproof, and a friend has the 307 which has been good. Still not sure I can bear to part with my Fabia after 5 years!

The 1.6 HDI has a reputation for turbo problems if not properly serviced regularly.

    However, I have a 407 1.6 HDI now on 98k miles.

It runs nicely but its had:

    Remap to 138 BHP
EGR bypass as part of the remap
DPF innards removed and deleted on remap

The belts are due this year (10 years old or at 144k miles).

If its the right price with the right history it’ll be fine.

Thanks, will have a look at the history. Remap might be interesting….

2.0hdi is entirely different engine to 1.6. 2.0 is a belting engine.

1.6 has ita quirks a good indy specialist will see you right.

Dint touch it if its already had a new turbo would be my advice.

As above if it already has a shiny new turbo I would be worried. But the golden rule is see if the injector have leaked I.e black tar like substance around the base of the injectors. If so walk away. The amount of crap inside the engine is a bitch to clean out to prevent future (soon) turbo failures.
I.e x3 oil and filter changes after vac pump removed and cleaned, sump and oil pump removed, oil pump strip and clean out, rocker cover off and clean and turbo oil feed and return replacement.
I’ve just finished a c4 1.6 HDI rebuild last night I intend to keep for my self so if any wants my old pug 307 sw 110 HDI (2.0L motor rebuilt and solid flywheel converted) give me a shout.

EGR bypass as part of the remap
DPF innards removed and deleted on remap

Thus saving you ££ and forgetting why they were placed there so us cyclists have to breath in the untreated cancerogenic from your cars.

Its illegal to tamper with the emissions controls on a vehicle for good reason. I’ll get off my high horse now- it just pisses me off that people do this. Especially a cyclist.

Have a good mate who is a mechanic and the oil pick-up pipe filter is a cause of many a problem. He says it’s worth taking off the sump pan and replacing the filter everytime the oil is changed ,the filter is a tenner, seems cheap for the peace of mind.

Really liked that massive roof. Flywheel went expensively on ours just out of warranty but had a decent sized ‘goodwill’ payment from Peugeot. The 2l is a big old engine and didn’t do great mileage for us. Similar nippyness and better MPG from newer 1.6 308.

FAP (is that DPF?), obviously plus EGR and some mysterious engine electrics fault that was never fully cured.
The switch unit behind the steering wheel – caused headlights and indicators to operate randomly.
The auto wipers operated whenever they liked. They usually liked hot dry sunny days!

The EGR only operates at partial throttle anyway, so i’m not sure how much difference its going to make. And whilst it might work well when new, it gradually cakes all of the inlet manifold of a diesel car in a thick layer of soot, reducing efficiency anyway.

    (like this)

Petrol is far better in terms of harmful pollution

Is that from the big book of made up laws ? Should i expect a fine with my next mot where it passes the appropriate emissions teat for my vehicle ?

I minimise my emissions by using my bike as transport as much as i can- work etc , using public transport in the form of the bus going to the city and not driving to the trail head.

Ah sorry, for some reason I misread your post and thought you were talking about the 2l 110. As you were…

1.6HDI 110- generally ok. I’d have one. I’ve had 2 already, in fact, and had no problems. EGR, DPF (FAP), DMF are common to many cars. Leaking injector number 3 is an easy fix now by most clued-up garages (Cillit Bang is your friend.) Since ’09, a new sump oil-strainer pickup is fitted that keeps the turbo happy.

Looks, there are hundred of thousands of them out there, across different marques. Some fail, most don’t.

Had 3 307SW’s last one did 150k. Kept it serviced never had an issue. Pulled well, loads of toys, smooth comfortable, very spacious and practical and 50mpg + on a run

All helpful, although the 3 on my short list are all 150 miles away in different directions…

    Cheers all

We have a 307sw on an 05 plate. Has been in the family since new done 130k now. Engine has been and still is spot on. Very economical and quick enough to drive on today’s busy roads. Will do 60+ mpg if driven at 65-70 and its done 80mpg up to keswick once following lorries at 55.

The only issue ours has is the usual Peugeot electrics. Last year the electric windows on the passenger side will only go up using the controls on the actual doors. They’ll go down off the switches on the drivers door just not up.
If you live near speed bumps then they seem to need a track rod replaced. Always on near side about once a year. About £100 fitted.

I’d buy another tbh. Or more likely a ‘multispace’ thing with the same engine.
