Druidh – with regards to the term Sassenach, i always understood it to be a term used by those who came to be known as highlanders to denote the people of what is now Southern Scotland as they were Saxon invaders/settlers. As Scotland was not a Nation at that point (And England was in it’s birth pangs) so it was a term for one ethnic grouping to denote another – foriegn – ethnic group.
Am i right as i understand this?
P.S. Does the term have any connection to the Welsh ‘Saisnegg’ (Spelling?) as they both appear to mean ‘Saxon’?
