How do you know what the proper length should be for your chain? I’ve been riding with the one i have for ages now but i think it’s too long.

I’ve ordered a new one as mine is a bit old and with a trip to Afan in a few weeks time i didn’t fancy risking my old chain up the climbs, but i wondered if there is a way of finding out what the correct length should be?

Sorry for the dumb ass question 😳

I use the big to big + 2 method. Big chain ring at the front to big sprocket at the back, missing the mech out. Add two links and join (obviously, through the mech at this point).

Works fine for a hardtail. On a full sus you need to take chain growth into account too. You might find you need a couple of extra link to account for this

Cheers, yes it is for a hardtail so will try this tonight with the current old chain.

    Many Thanks
