I'm confused. Very confused.
I've just got a DMR Bolt frame and bought a 142 x 12 swapout-dropout for it. So fitted the new dropouts, my 142 hub fits fine so all fine on that front.
I ordered a Shimano 142x12 e-thru axle for it. So it arrived today and bizarrely the axle is too long. I tighten the axle nut fully and there is an extra 5 or so mm of axle. 142 swapouts, 142 hub, 142 axle. What am I missing?

I believe there are a number of different 12 axle standards, shimano, syntace, maxle, maybe more. You probably have the wrong one
They look pretty thin dropouts, probably the same overall width of your average 135mm set-up. We've got the opposite issue with the latest Lapierre 142mm rear ends, OE axles break, replacement Shimano axle's not really long enough to work, barely engaging the threads.
Hope you don't mind me jumping in on your thread but I was wondering which headset you bought for the bike?
fervouredimage, thank you for this post. I have exactly the same Problem, did you find a axle that fits?
