Hi, self confessed maintenance numpty here needing a bit of help.
I am replacing the PF30 BB on my Boardman, but have fallen at the first. I can't remove the cranks and after a lot of sweat, swearing and head scratching I have finally worked out why.
It appears on a previous service (Halfords, I'm looking at you) the retaining collar was not re fitted. So I've unscrewed the 8mm bolt and low and behold the crank won't split.
I'm guessing the only way to get them off is to find a retaining bolt and fit that to split the cranks? Which isn't a disaster as I've got a new crankset coming as I found a new one online for less than the price of a chainring, so I'm hoping I can use that ring.
So question is, is there any other way so I can press on now instead of waiting for the new crankset and also does anybody know what size pin spanner is needed to remove and instal the retaining collar.
Why I didn't leave it to the pro's I don't know, oh yeah because they'll probably leave some fundamental part off that'll screw me in the future!
