Any suggestions to replace worn out Giant PR-2 on mrs anagallis bike. Budget around £300. Was thinking Prime Attacker but wiggle they have no stock. Need quick release and rim brakes. She is pretty light but rides all year round.

DT Swiss r460 rims are very competitively priced and can be built into a good value wheelset.

For all weather use consider Miche Primato hubs. DT Swiss 350s if you can spend a little more.

If it's for dry weather use only then Bitex or Novatec hubs are fine and are lighter and cheaper.

The Fulcrums in our price range seem a good chunk heavier than the prime wheels....

DT Swiss, whatever someone like Merlin is selling with a 350/370 hub.

On arrival take off end caps and freehub, a little smear of waterproof grease to help keep the bearings dry, and based on my experience it should be fine for many thousands of miles with no further maintenance. After 4 years I replaced the bearings (£20 and 20 mins with sockets, hammer and wood blocks).

I bought superstar at that price (they are disc though), cant fault the spec / weight and mine were delivered without issue and have been fine 2 years on now.

Very difficult to compare wheel sets, how much better is a shimano, DT Swiss, Mavic branded budget hub/rim than another - or an unbranded one. Do you just go with the best offer?

These are £305 and will be solid https://thecycleclinic.co.uk/collections/road-rim-brake-wheelsets/products/handbuilt-borg22-tubeless-compatible-clincher-wheelset

If you can build your own then DT350 hubs, Alpina DB spokes from the Cyclebasket and whatever rims fit your budget.

Novatec Jetfly might be a little more than £300

I've got a set of Ritchey Classic Zeta wheels. Really impressed: <1500g and pretty stiff. I got them for £350 but you might struggle to find them at that price. The 'comp' version is under £200 but is about 1900g.

Me too. I paid £250 for their own hubs on a suitable rim. QR and rim brakes and the pair weighed 1490 grams.

I was very happy and they're going very well. I do about 2000 road miles a year and I've had them for approx' 2 years.

Check out the Hunt Range. 4 Seasons Aero if she wants a more all year round setup, or the Race Aero's for a slightly lighter setup...

Or there's also the Novatec Jetfly, not a wheel I'd recommend to heavier riders, but if she's light like you say, then it's a great option.

Pair of Shimano RS300 from Merlin. £170.

https://www.merlincycles.com/shimano-rs300-105-clincher-road-wheelset-115968.html

Similar weight, quiet running, easily maintainable hubs.

Or go 90 quid over budget and get the RS500 Ultegra level ones

Have a look at the JRA lark light wheels. I replaced my Giant PR-2's with them and they seem very good.

Wiggle says in stock for me...

If you want to go slightly cheaper / heavier, Mavic Aksiums are usually a good deal.

https://www.cycledivision.co.uk/wheels/clincher?dir=asc&order=price
A30 and A24 look decent price for spec, but no stock until 7th July.

https://www.probikekit.co.uk/bicycle-wheels/campagnolo-zonda-c17-clincher-wheelset-black/11349819.html are a very safe good bet in rim brake version, the disc version is much more of a lottery.

ROAD50 at Superstar gives 50% discount, makes https://www.superstarcomponents.com/en/pave-ultra-road2-wheelset-uk-made-hubs.htm and https://www.superstarcomponents.com/en/arc-ultra--road2-wheelset-uk-made-hubs.htm £150

I recently bought the spline DT Swiss Dicut 1600's for my road bike and didnt come particulary true or round !
Quick email to Merlins customer services and they didnt give a flying to$$. Has tarnished my thoughts on buying from them again. Well done Steve for your inept customer services.
Merlins are good until something isnt right , so just a headsup from me. If you want to see the wheels AA, then pop over. They are nice , if a little more but ratchet rear hubs are nicer.
Oh and Merlins feedback is all chosen, so dont believe the 5 stars for all the products !! Anything less than 4 gets deleted.

I've had good luck with cero ar30 wheels, mine are a few years old now but the new version looks very light, nice and in budget.

I’ve had good experience with anything from Campag/fulcrum, choose model to fit your budget. I’ve never taken a spoke or spanner to these in many thousands of miles. Aksiums developed some play in the hubs after a while, and not especially light.

Therese are 150 quid delivered with code ROAD50

https://www.superstarcomponents.com/en/arc-ultra--road2-wheelset-uk-made-hubs.htm

Tubeless rim, Sapim laser spokes, 1540g.

I have some with the previous hubs and they're really nice. Highly recommended

Edit - haha, I see someone else recommended them too

Anyone know difference between the ultras and pave? Ultras have wider rims, are these suitable for 25mm tyres? I presume so but itvwas all easier when we had less choice!!

On the Superstar wheels. Not knocking them at all as I've got a soft spot for them but remember they don't come with skewers or even rim tape so make sure you don't have an exciting rip-open the box to go for a ride moment and then have to spend weeks in the slow lockdown world ordering some.

Slight thread highjack but I presume the weight of https://www.superstarcomponents.com/en/mavic-open-pro-ust-wheelset.htm can't be right at 1460g for a 32 spoke wheelset. It would probably be my perfect wheel if it was. £200 for the set with the code road50.

A quick tot up of claimed part weights suggests just over 1500g in 32hole.

Reasonably light hubs and rims with laser spokes and alu nips is going to be pretty decent.

Any thoughts on rim width for 25mm tyres? 17 or 19 internal?

Given I'm going to fit a 23mm GP5000 on my Hunt 17mm internal front, I'd say 19mm, which will then give a better profile if you choose a tyre that is in the real world closer to ~28mm (such as the 700x25 GP4000S II).

Done, went for the 19mm ones. Schwalbe say thats in range and she has Durano's fitted at moment, need to see if they are tubeless ready next.
Thanks for the help guys, got what I wanted for half my budget!
