Remember them? Amazing, that is all.

Yep, we basically had a potato famine in our house from where I would ruin them all. Still remember getting moaned at.

Made out of the drainage pipe, filled with butane and ignited by piezoelectric.

Almost blinded a kid in my school when it went a big bit wrong.

@Ambrose – I was introduced to that type of spud gun in the Srares when I was at uni there. Immense fun but yes, could be a little dicey!

@Ambrose, one of my mates made one of the drainpipe spud cannons, had immense fun with it one night while drunk, we had to confiscate it frae another pal though who was getting too much fun out of it, one of my memories was him shouting ‘duck!’ at a couple of passers-by while launching a tattie across the river

Ah yes, the spud gun. I had a metal one, from my uncle’s old toys that my gran had kept for us to play with. All those toys were made of metal, or bakelite.

As a child of the eighties, the amount of small arms in the hands of children seems bizarre these days. I had amongst other things – spud gun, ‘laggy-band’ gun (stick with a nail in one end and a clothes peg on the other), various catapults, flick knives/butterfly knives, air pistols, air rifle with ‘modified’ spring, a spear, nun chucks/ninja star. This was all before the age of 13. And all the kids I knocked about with had comparable armouries.

Maybe it’s a good thing. As an adult I have no weapons, or any interest in them. Coincidence?

Changed days indeed. We would take air rifles to the park, be about 4 of us and launch pellets into anything stationary(Never animals or birds or any other living thing, but trees were fair game.

Today there’d be an armed response team holding you at gunpoint.
