OK so the shock is locked out until you hit something fast enough to open the inertia valve. But are you then back to compressing the back end everytime you honk on the pedals? I pedal smoothly enough on fire roads etc on my 03' enduro with pushed shock that I don't really worry about the smidgin of bob. However, what I do dislike, especially after a winter on a singlespeed Inbred, is when I power out of turns, pedal through rock steps or get out of the saddle, the back just compresses. I miss the snappy acceleration of a hardtail, but worse still is the number of times I clip the pedals instead of powering out of a rocky turn or popping up a rock steps cleanly (nearly came a cropper more than once on the Skyline last weekend). It's annoyed me enough to be loking for a new frame, hence the question. But I think the brain will not help? I guess I need a propedal shock or do I need to move away from a horst link as well? Wow that turned out longer than I thought!

You can adjust the brain to respond how you like, but to be honest the factory settings are pretty good. Mine kicks in after a big hit or several medium hits. So if it see something coming up that i want the shock active for a quick bunny hop will open it up. Like wise on the medium hits, you're generally on a downhill when this happens. It then returns to lock out pretty quickly.

Seems to me you've read a lot about it but not actually used one. Give it a go, its miles better than a lot of people say it is.

I had a day out on a s-works stumpjumper fsr because I wanted to know what the brain(s) can do.

I was pretty sceptical about it: I am convinced now, it's brilliant. The transition from open to shut is pretty much impossible to detect, you just forget it's there, which I believe is an indication of how good it is...

As Wozza says, give it a go.

I've got a Brain equipped '06 S-Works Epic, and frankly it rides like a hardtail. I bought it because I can't get on with any sort of suspension feeling 'floaty' but wanted a little more comfort.

The Epic didn't give me any more comfort than a hardtail, but it does go faster.

notorious reliability problems. I went through 3 in 6 months last year, as have others on this site. good when working though, but not sure I would go back to using one now. Current batch of propedalled shocks are so good that I dont feel the need.
