Ok I snore (a lot apparently) and I would like to stop for my wife's sanity. I've given those nose strips and the throat spray a go but have had no joy, I am currently trying to loose weight as the Dr says that will help. But I could do with something in the meantime that will reduce or stop me snoring. Ear plugs for my wife arnt a good idea because we have two small children and I could sleep through a bomb blast.

    Any ideas?

you sleep on your back, yes? The traditional fix was to sew a tennis ball into the back of your pyjamas to stop you lying on your back.

Thats when I snore the most. Problem with that solution is that I dont wear PJs in bed undercrackers only for me. I get way too hot otherwise (probably the excess weight doing that)

some kind of fanny pack then? Dunno. All the people I've known who snore, don't snore when they sleep on their side. I assume that *everyone* snores to a degree when they sleep on their back to be honest. Problem is, if you're a big lad then your wife is going to find it difficult to roll you over in the night.

put your wife's bra on backwards with golf / tennis / footballs (delete as appropriate) filling the cups

I'm not huge at about 14.5st and 6ft but that's still over an extra 50% of her bodyweight and that would be tough for anybody to move. It would be nice if I didn't wake her up for her to need to roll me over.

I might fill up my camelback and put that on. One of those tshirt camelbacks would do the job for that.

Brilliant! Plus if you fancy making love in the night, you can keep the bladder filled and have a quick drink during if you get thirsty.

My wife punches me if I snore until I roll over. I don't usually wake up, but apparently the snoring calms down.

Definitely sleeping on your side too, I can't sleep on my back any more.

[/url] you could try one of these devices or the like but they didn't work for me. Best thing is to lose weight and reduce the booze…

saw a program about that snore mender. They tried every traditional known method and only that worked in the end.

Dunno what it would be like sleeping with a gum shield in, mind

Ive had a look at that snore menders thing and the nearest thing to a picture I can find is a copy of their patent. Strange

PS the one I tried – not a snoremender but a gumshield type made me gag

Um yes Mr.Joolze went along to find about about the gum shield solution as he snores competitively for England….
Was okay until they told him that using it will rot his teeth, so we decided against that solution…
I find holding a pillow over his head works, until he turns blue… then I roll him onto his side….

Im going to give the no alcohol thing a try for a few nights hopefully that will help a bit.

Try sleeping on different sides. If I'm on my back or on my left side I snore like a pig (allegedly according to Mrs BoardinBob, who's unbelievably intolerant of anything she doesn't like)

If I sleep on my right hand side though I don't snore

Booze is a big no no as it relaxes the muscles in the neck. I tried the gum shield and it was too distracting. Nasal strips help. Avoid the sprays, all they're supposed to do is lubricate your throat to smooth the passage of air but they don't work)

If it's really bad and you're actually suffering from sleep apnea you'll need to consider a CPAP machine.

There is a problem with sleeping on different sides because I move around a lot while asleep. I can only get to sleep on my front but as soon as I am asleep I'm all over the place. When I'm on my back the snoring is worst (so I have been told). Im sort of putting all my eggs in the weight loss basket but I think I need to try other things in the mean time and incase that doesn't work.

i have always snored and i snore so bad i stop breathing and wake myself up – i am always constantly tired
had two operations and another (tonsils out and alteration to some soft tissue on the roof of my mouth) due before christmas and possibly a CPAP machine

i did a home sleep test last week and await the results

the doctors always say you are overweight and losing weight will help but it does nt always
i have lost 2 stone in 12 months (i am now 12st 4lbs and 5' 8") and still snore as bad as ever

its always been a source of great amusement to people but embarrasment and constant tiredness to me

good luck and if it does nt get any better keep going back to your doctor – they do take it much more seriously these days

FWIW, I'm not overweight and I suspect my OH might say I could snore for England – so losing weight may well not help (but at least it wouldn't do you any harm)

I've just had a (deep breath) Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty or palatal tightening operation this last Thursday to cure my snoring. Though it hasn't worked yet according to this big bald tattoed goatee bearded bloke with a police escort who was on the ward and everyone else whos heard me.

+1 for my better half, have occasionally woken up to being beaten but usually just roll over sleep through it (again drink increases my chances of snoring)

Loving the camelbak idea! (wearing and hydrating)

Get the sleep talk ap if youve got an I phone, will be most amusing listening back to all the abuse she’s levelling at you whilst your in the land of nod!! Booze and a few extra pounds on always make my snoring worse so I’m told!!

Anyone who snores should be shot. That way in a few generations we’ll be rid of the problem. Please consider it a sacrifice for the greater good.

I learnt to sleep on my front – well actually more like the ‘recovery position’ if you’ve ever done a first aid course – one arm and one leg bent. Took a while, but now I actually feel more comfortable, and ‘apparently’ I don’t snore anymore. Helps to have a thin pillow (so your neck isn’t stretched) a firm mattress (so it doesn’t sag in the middle) and be able to put your feet over the end of the bed – ie no footboard (so you’re not standing on tip-toes all night!)

    I snore apparently.

I started snoring about a year ago…I think there are a couple of causes for me; 1, I have severe tinnitus which has got worse recently, this means I don’t sleep very well so end up tired – which results in snoring; 2, I used to be physically active and very fit, but in the past 6 months I haven’t trained due to menieres playing up.

The fact that I’m not as physically active as I used to be results in me not sleeping as well as I usually do. And I’m heavier than I should be so the extra weight is contributing to the snoring too.
