Snitches get stitches… Dashcam and NIP content…

Surprised nobody has asked the question – OP, what make of car where they driving?
It was actually the dark horse of a….. FIAT 500!!!
DrP
fossyFull MemberA Fiat 500…
Had a guy in a beemer cutting folk up in rush hour, way quicker than everyone else, just before an average speed camera section.
Pulled into the outside land and stuck on the rear bumper of a Polestar. One blip of the pedal and the Polestar would have been gone into the distance.
GlennQuagmireFree MemberLoads of noisy cars “cruising” around my local area. The usual stuff, clapped out fiestas and corsas with a ramshackle Halfords exhaust hanging off the back.
The fastest cars nowadays make no noise at all, however.
1cinnamon_girlFull MemberYesterday my daughter handed over dashcam footage to plod, daughter not involved but was a witness to some of it. She’s been distraught, it’s really affected her as the innocent woman driver has internal injuries and doesn’t look good. Daughter was comforting her until emergency services arrived. Do hope justice will be served.
210Full Memberlurches forward, pulls into my land and overtakes the lorry, but forces me to emergency brake and swerve (not sure how much was me, or how much was the car doing it!)…
Did you feel a slight tingle in your hair? Like a piss weak static build-up. That’ll be his small dick energy.
polyFree MemberMoab – I don’t think there’s actually a portal to submit video to in Scotland is there? I’ve assumed (but it’s a guess) that this was because we seem to make a meal of corroboration of stuff up here. That doesn’t mean you ACTUALLY need two cops to collect the video and take a statement etc – but because it requires a bit of effort from both the cops and the prosecutor to know what needs corroborated, when and how the easy option is to do things the way they have for the last 50 years.
bikesandbootsFull MemberGood outcome.
From the thread title though I was dreading that a dashcam reporter had been tracked down by the reported party and been subjected to violence.
3CougarFull MemberI’ve been watching a lot of these fly-on-the-wall cop shows of late, in a “there’s sod all else on and I want to take my brain out for an hour” sort of way. A lot of it is dashcam footage. After seeing some of the horrors I’m tempted to get one myself.
I do wonder how long it’ll be before they become factory fit as standard. I already have a rear-facing camera for reversing, seems silly not to repurpose it when driving. The front has a forward sensor array which would rival the Enterprise and I’m driving a Seat not a Constellation-class starship.
CountZeroFull MemberBerk isn’t actually toned down. It’s cockney rhyming slang for something you’ll have to Google yourself
As pointed out, it relates to upper class twits on horses chasing foxes around Berkshire.
I keep toying with the idea of getting a dashcam, but I’m doing less than half the annual mileage I was doing eighteen months ago, 4850 according to the mileage from last year’s MOT, so about 5000 by the time my car’s MOT’d in a couple of weeks or so; it was closer to 12,000 previously.

Did a ride leader course at the weekend and a boy racer went past with a snap crackle and pop. I caused some disruption to the group by forgetting to disconnect my mouth from my brain and I said “I wish my penis was that small.”
A mate who comes from a family of real car enthusiasts now has a Polestar and says he can’t see a reason to get the “Sport” upgrade.

There is draft legislation/requirements being looked at in several markets. Both for parked cars (sentry mode for insurance type stuff) and external/internal cameras for moving vehicles, there is already a framework of sorts in place for internal camera monitoring in a couple of markets in the event of a serious (airbag deployed/seatbelt tensioners fired) crash.
It’s all very drafty though, as there are massive issues around GDPR type stuff and self incrimination/5th amendment etc in multiple markets.

Was much more fun in the early days when most people didn’t even recognise most EVs. XC40 BEV protos for instance, just looked like dumpy mini SUVs (usually with T2 badges). Much (perfectly legal) fun could be had with the pop bang guys and girls.
escrsFree MemberIve uploaded a quite a few close passes and even someone going through a traffic light system on the wrong side of the road driving directly towards me to the Hampshire Snap website
I have never had any feedback from them about what happened
Ive also uploaded an incident to West Sussex’s snap website when a horsebox van close passed me, then turned left directly in front of me, within a day i had a reply saying they had spoken to the driver and offered them the choice of points or a driving course, they chose the driving course
It does annoy me that Hampshire Police do not inform you what happens after you have submitted your footage, you have no idea if its making any difference
3ratherbeintobagoFull MemberThere really needs to be benchmarking and standardisation on this (in England at least). I think DCS Andy Cox who’s a prominent voice in favour of dashcams has said there should be feedback as a) a NIP encourages further reporting and b) if people are told why not, then it improves quality.
DrPFull MemberWhat dashcam do you have?
In the Polestar I’ve got a Garmin Mini 2, just because i wanted the smallest decent camera I could fit BESIDE (not below) the rear view mirror gubbings..
There is a camera called a ‘fitmax’ that actually clips into the plastic around the mirror, so sits centrally and looks OEM, but i prefer brand names for things like this.In teh leaf i had a top range Nextbase (622? I forget). The Nextbase was bulkier and had a screen. The image WAS better quality, but the Garmin is soo tiny, has a wide FOV, and i think the voice response is better. I.e “garmin, save video” is just instant.
A mate who comes from a family of real car enthusiasts now has a Polestar and says he can’t see a reason to get the “Sport” upgrade.
I’d agree there’s no convincing argument to get it, other than “i want it”!! Car still drives the same, it’s just got even MORE pull!
DrP
mattyfezFull MemberAnyone know how to get the garmin 40% discount for STW members?
I’m currently looking at this :https://www.halfords.com/technology/dash-cams/nextbase-320xrplus-front-and-rear-dash-cam-bundle-with-32gb-sd-card-508646.html
Seems to come in at £235 oince you add the hard wire kit and fiting cost…but looks a bit bulky so im looking at other option for simmilar money…would want front and rear though as I figure may aswell get both as a kit..?
bensalesFree MemberIn the Polestar…

I’ve got one of their front and rear setups. It’s just as good as the Blackvues I’ve had in other cars. Convenient to get footage off as well, you can just pop the SD card out the side, although it does have the obligatory WiFi connected app. Well made, and really does look like part of the car once fitted
Only thing I miss about the Tesla builtin stuff was the ability to just tap a button on the screen to save a clip. Made it a lot easier to find stuff post-drive.
DrPFull MemberCheers Ben..
Maybe I was just being a bit apprehensive about plugging in something that isn’t Garmin or next base!
Nice to hear they actually work… And yes, they do look significantly better in a P2 as well!

5jonesyboyFull MemberI still think a driving refresher course every 5 years would be great, I do about 50k miles a year and the amount of idiots on phones or just being cretins is astounding
1timbaFree MemberThere really needs to be benchmarking and standardisation on this (in England at least).
Unfortunately budgets, policing priorities, etc. It needs to come from government and it’ll be a looong way down the list on July 5th
mattyfezFull MemberAny thought on this?
Price look good (comes in at £260 fitted?) and I dont really want a screen as it will be distracting?
1BunnyhopFull MemberFame at last- Hubby and I had a close pass riding our tandem on a narrow lane (over the moors at Ludworth near Hayfield). Even though we slightly pulled into a layby, she close passed us (I scream). The cyclist coming the other way was forced to dismount into the grass verge.
Further along, the couple have parked in the entrance of a farmers field. Five minutes later they pass us again, the male passenger leans out of the window, says ‘wots yur problem? ‘ Calls hubby a w**ker 5 times. says we’re a couple of gays on a stupid ‘pussy’ bike all the while filming us on his phone. Look out for us on youtube/tiktok or some other social meeja on a screen soon. We have got a camera, but whether GM police will do anything I doubt it.
mattyfezFull MemberI’ve just pulled the trigger on a dashcam. front and rear nextbase 522GW, fitted with hardwired kit..
I wish I had it today…just saw a procession of maybe 20-30 riders on quads, Moto-X bikes and Suron type things pulling wheelies and all over the road, none looked road legal, and a lot were also 2’s up with balaclavas/snoods and no helmets. On the main road from brighouse heading toward huddersfield.
I was going in the opposite direction and there were a few times when I thought some of them were going to veer into the other side of the road..absolute mayhem.
There was even what I would call a ‘proper motorcyclist on a proper motorbike’ infront of me, and he was just shaking his head at the spectacle… I wouldn’t be supprised if a few of them end up as pavement pizza today.
2ratherbeintobagoFull Member@bunnyhop I’d chase that up if you don’t hear from GMP – Dame Sarah Storey probably a good place to start ATCommissioner@greatermanchester-ca.gov.uk
MartynSFull MemberJane.
if you were near Hayfield it’ll be Derbyshire police not GMP.
Derbyshire police told me a close pass by a bus was my fault for being on the road….
Tom83Full MemberIs the report anonymous? I’ve got footage of a police officer drinking from a coffee cup whilst driving a marked car.

Derbyshire Police do a great job down here at the other end.

Gloucestershire, not Berkshire. But, yes twits indeed.
Or, perhaps, nincompoops.
bobodaclownFree MemberI just ordered a Nextbase622 and their rear camera, hopefully easy to wire in and set up.
I did have a look stupidly after I bought and a few comments on it being glitchy, freezing and overheating.
Will see how I get on.
bensalesFree MemberIs the report anonymous?
No, it’s not. You have to identify yourself, and say you’ll give evidence in court should it be needed
I’ve got footage of a police officer drinking from a coffee cup whilst driving a marked car.
And what makes you think they were doing anything illegal?
teaandbiscuitsFree Member>I’ve got footage of a police officer drinking from a coffee cup whilst driving a marked car.
Is that illegal?
mattyfezFull MemberIs that illegal?
Not in and of itself… it is if you are deemed to not be in proper control of the vehicle. How exactly that is defined I don’t know… swerving about or missing traffic signals etc?
https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/know-how/driving-myths-your-questions-answered/
mattyfezFull MemberWow! Scramble the chopper!
I mean I’m not saying the driver was right or wrong, but what possible use could a helecopter be in a case like this, after she’d already been pulled over for the alleged offence? the mind boggles.
She was stopped by PC Lee Butler, who issued her with a £30 fine as part of a Northumbria Police drive against food or drink at the wheel.
Ok, fine…
The incident led to the dispatching of a police helicopter in order to take aerial photographs and videos, as well as nine preliminary hearings.
Say what?

You learn something every day. I was always under the impression you couldn’t.
Happy to be corrected, ta.
Off out for a drive and a coffee.
bensalesFree MemberAs long as you’re completely in control of the vehicle, you can be supping any drink, even a pint of beer, completely legally.
aphex_2kFree MemberManaged to avoid purchasing a dash cam so far but Aussie Dash Cams keeps coming up on my YT feed and honestly, I think it’s time I got one. Saw the clip of a guy in his 4by and a little kid runs out from between parked cars. Driver did well to stop but it could have been worse and how do you prove you weren’t going too fast, distracted or not paying attention should this end up in court?
How many have front and rear cameras?
1MoreCashThanDashFull Memberand how do you prove you weren’t going too fast, distracted or not paying attention should this end up in court?
Specialist accident investigators are part of the roads policing units and can determine an awful lot from the other evidence at the scene.
1politecameraactionFree MemberFunnily enough there’s a big story on at the moment about alleged pseudoscience from “specialist accident investigators” being used to convict a man of homicide of his three children: https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/it-could-be-any-of-us-top-scientists-sound-alarm-over-unreliable-evidence-20240528-p5jh7q.html
Coming after the fire investigation pseudoscience revelation we should all be cautious of big conclusions drawn from scant physical evidence: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2009/09/07/trial-by-fire
