Any insightful critical analysis to add yourself, comrade?

I couldn’t care less to be honest cos PMQs is a pointless ritual

Yeah, it’s all well and good “forensically taking apart” the PM, but if you’re still behind in the polls then what difference does it make?

    That’s a no then?

    As usual

    *yawns*

Indulging in any kind of exchange with you really is like having a conversation with a shipping container. Like the rest of your angry, paranoid, tinfoil-helmet-wearing, bunker-dwelling, permanently aggrieved, isolationist, wallowing in self-pity, sanctimonious, lefty tribe you actually have absolutely nothing to say. Nothing at all. So from here on in, I’m out

Well that’s labour f***** forever. Nice one Keir. Funny way to unify the party by dropping a hand grenade right in the middle of it. Total overreaction and the worst possible mistake he could have made.

Or, maybe, taking a hard line with any anti-semitic nonsense still hanging around before it blows up again.

Or, maybe, she simply provided enough rope to be hung with.

Seems to me that sacking a cabinet member for not being squeaky clean sends a message to everybody, both within the party and across the house….

Edit: by which I guess I’m drawing such a clear distinction between this and the woolly defense of those in the tory party who have not covered themselves in glory…

He just blew it up himself by sacking a senior cabinet member for absolutely f*** all. I mean honestly, if this is anti-semitic then we might as well pack up and go home and allow the mcarthyites to purge the whole of society. I don’t really like RLB but this is bullshit.

Many folk within the Labour party are suggesting that had this been a first or one off event, there may have been a different outcome.  The Maxine Peake article is offensive nonsense TBF and for RLB to retweet it was stupid, if she doesn’t have the wit to realise that, she shouldn’t be in the Cabinet, and as a bonus it puts clear water between the Cons (keeping Jenrick and Cummings) and what the Labour leadership will. I’m pretty content TBH.

I like Maxine Peake, she’s one of the good people. But it’s time to realise that sharing antisemitic tropes by good people, without malice, is still wrong. If you are a top flight politician, of any party, you need to be aware that you can’t be seen to be supporting the spreading of such dangerous nonsense… and that applies doubly if your party is Labour right now, rightly or wrongly.

    Ironically.

The interview contains Peake complaining about people rewriting history.

    and

The Independent have now redacted portions of the interview because of the Bong-Lady story.

Maxine Peake, she’s one of the good people.

She’s a well-off, communist ideologist, who believes destroying capitalism will save humanity. Probably right up the Continuity Corbyns streets.

But. Didn’t we already do that one a number of times about 100 years ago? Did I miss something in world history where all the communist states saved the world? Or did it turn out they weren’t so good after all? Didn’t it turn out that you can’t sell this stuff to the public in, er, any country that has elections?

Well @dazh seems upset over it.

I’m no fan of the Corbyn / Long-Bailey style of politics, but even I think this could be called an ‘any excuse’ sacking, still that’s politics, if you aim for the top job, don’t miss.

I think it does send the right message, that even a whiff of anti-jewish thoughts will be punished mightily.

It might restore some faith in Labour from that community.

It punts LongBailey into the long grass.

I didn’t say I agreed with all her politics, just that I like her. We need to point out when people we like are part of the problem. Because we are also part for the problem if we don’t. That was all I meant.

ffs Daz EHRC report about to drop-

If Starmer didnt act on this, he’d have been wide open for attack from Johnson & the Tory press

RLB is grown up enough to read what shes tweeting before she does it, I honestly cant believe she was stupid enough to not realise this would cause trouble.

hmmm, I’m not going to argue with you, but I’ll reserve judgement over someone who wants to blame Israel for the death of George Floyd, TBH

someone who wants to blame Israel for the death of George Floyd,

I’m literally saying that’s not on, it’s dangerous antisemitic nonsense, and that RLB looking to support someone saying it is a sacking offence.

And, those saying this isn’t an antisemitic conspiracy theory being spread here, should have a calm think about that.

His appointment of RLB was a sop to the left and he’s taken the first opportunity to get rid of her, allowing him to look tough and decisive. Mind you, endorsing the tweet was quite spectacularly stupid.

I hate that Irony Meter meme. It was obviously made by an idiot who think the needle is driven from the end of the needle.

Just don’t mention Israel, ever. In any context.

That’s all they have to do.

Is the situation right? No, absolutely not. But that’s the situation.

If they want to get anywhere near power i.e. in a position where they can actually do something about Palestine, they just have to keep shut in the mean time.

Share an article on twitter = instantly appears as if you are endorsing it.

If I was Starmer I would just put a blanket ban on all Labour MPs sharing 3rd party content online. Just keep it bland, pictures from your constituency, kissing babies, helping old folk across the road.

That’s all they have to do.

I hate Blair / Campbell because of the Iraq war, and the fact at the end of the day, Blair didn’t make the reforms that the country needed when he had the chance. But they knew how this all works.

I think it’s meant to represent that it’s hit the stop so hard, it’s bent the needle…There’s probs a joke in there somewhere about the irony of not getting the joke about an irony meter, or something….

There’s a slight risk of folk over-thinking it.

If only that applied to the USA right now. Unfortunately, we’ve become so attuned to dog-whistle messages that this sort of thing has to be called out.

SKS looks strong, gets rid of someone he doesn’t like, and can use his rapid action in any riposte to the next time BoJo does something awful. Labour become the good guys and they can start rebranding the Tories the nasty party.

Meanwhile, RLB will repent, and people will (rightly, IMO) see that what she did was probably not malicious and her treatment was a little harsh (yet fair, in the current climate). She’ll be back I’m sure. So… all is fine?

I think that’s clear, but if so it has been bent the wrong way which I’m guessing is where p-jays disdain lies….

In fairness, there are some documentaries out there which make the point she was endorsing.

Just don’t mention Israel, ever. In any context.

Hardly a healthy approach to democracy and honest debate. Whether Keir Starmer likes it or not, Israel is an important subject to many in the party. What else shouldn’t they be discussing? NHS funding? Privatisation?  Perhaps we could bring back the practice of marching troublesome conference delegates into the street to be shot if they disagree with the dear leader? All this will do is spark a new civil war and any claims towards unity are gone. I wouldn’t even be surprised if a split was in the offing.

    kelvin

Of course you can mention Israel. If you jump straight from the central complaints of the BLM cause to a global conspiracy with Israel at its heart, you are on dodgy ground. As a politician, you need to stay well clear of spreading that nonsense. As an actor, you should be called out for it. As a politician, an apology and a statement distancing yourself from the claim might be enough… but not in the Labour Party right now… higher standards are required… you can argue that is unfair, but not that RLB should not have been aware that is the reality.

So this is a ‘trope’ now is it? It’s been all over the net for years, including concerns raised by Amnesty:

“Systematic racism” in the USA police forces was not learnt via trips to Israel.

    kimbers

Even if RLB & Peake have a valid point to make

“The tactics used by the police in America, kneeling on George Floyd’s neck, that was learnt from seminars with Israeli secret services.” (A spokesperson for the Israeli police has denied this, stating that “there is no tactic or protocol that calls to put pressure on the neck or airway”.)

isnt simply saying that Israelis train American police

Anti-semitism & his failure to deal with it was weaponised v effectively against corbyn at the last election

    EHRC report is due

Starmer has to take action to root it out & make sure the public knows this

Its essential if he wants to make sure that labour doesnt make the jewish community feel persecuted & get elected

RLB was an idiot to tweet this

So, to summarise: George Floyd is dead because… JEWS!

Lots of people have seen John wick films, it would be equally unesesary and missing the point to say they’d learnt a choke hold from that.

    It just didn’t need saying.

I think it’s the correct move to sack her.

So, to summarise: Maxine Peake says George Floyd is dead because… an evidence free amnesty international blog post said it was JEWS!
