    Morning all.

I’ve had a scout on the search button for single speed.

Didnt manage to get anything relevant, unless i missed it.

Does anyone know of single speed mtb’s you can buy off the peg?

Cannondale seems to be the only one that I can see are doing it.

Any pointers to other manufacturers/models would be great.

    Cheers.

Kona Unit? In all fairness, the Cannondale is very nice. Ok so the brakes and cranks are tat but you are buying a smashing chassis to be going on with.

    Thanks Ade.

Think they may be a little strong on the price though 🙂

I have a Unit but if I was shopping again I’d have a good look at the Cannonsnails.

Just had a look at the unit. Seems like a nice bike.

Cannondale looks good for the money.

is there a particular reason it has to be ‘off the peg’? Lots of LBSs will sell you one as off-the-peg if it’s for cyclescheme.

    No reason in particular.

Have been slowly converting my giant xtc to single speed.

I just thought that I could do with another new bike and a rigid single speed seems like a nice new addition.

I picked up a new 2014 ‘Dale 29er SS for not a lot (£530). I really like it.

There are a couple of weak areas in the spec but for the price you can’t complain. I swapped out the standard brakes for XT straight away. I also swapped out the cranks/BB as I had better ones available in the spares box. I’ve also recently changed the bars to carbon. So yes, I’ve spent more than the original cost but have ended up with a bike I’m really happy with for really not a lot of money.

Singular swift, solaris, fortitude (2nd hand – excellent), kona unit, sanderson, surly etc etc.

I would go steel every time on a rigid bike for what it’s worth.

    Why off the peg?
You could build up a bike for the same sort of money with components you like.
I would suggest a Stooge.. but I’m biased.

    Hi Ska,

I have already started stripping down my carbon giant xtc for conversion to a single speed

Just fancy a single speed rigid 29er too.

Heres a thought, most bikes can run singlespeed without the hassle of a tensioner, bb30 and PF30 are covererd by beer components with their eccentric bottom bracket, as long the circlips are removable on your bb30 shell. With a standard threaded one there is an option of an exzentriker from trick components. So if you are happy with your Giant XTC why not buy a spare, rip the gears off, change the bottom bracket and bingo.

Had a cannondale the eccentric bottom bracket was a nightmare, currently run a Pace RC129 with slider dropouts and a Niner with a problem solvers E46 (which has a PF30 shell), so far very good.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and my eyes don’t see a nice looking Stooge up there^

It looks like a shopping bike 😕
