That was an interesting drive up the m74 yesterday afternoon. It took 4 hours to get from Gretna to Larkhall, should have been about 1.5hrs.
Although to be fair it looks like I faired a lot better than those going southbound.
Felt sorry for those that were breaking down / getting stuck. Less sorry for those who binned it because they were driving like a ****.
Well despite the whole 1.5cm of slush, A6038 into Shipley was queuing all the way back to Otley. People driving in the opposite direction at walking pace on a flat piece of road with no snow , slush or ice. There’s caution and then there’s timidity
Currently sat in Southampton airport waiting to fly back to Edinburgh, followed by a drive home into the borders… think I’ll pick up some emergency snacks from WHSmiths!
Yeah a colleague was stuck on the m74 overnight until it started moving about 5.30am, problem was there was no warning on overhead gantries etc that traffic ahead had been stationary for two hours already so more and more traffic was piling on from behind. Police were trying to keep a lane clear for the gritters/rescue trucks etc but bmws etc kept trying to use it to overtake and getting stuck. Apparently one prize plum trying to drive along the central reservation too. SOunds like mountain rescue were doing a great job though.
There’s a road in there somewhere, pic lifted from the Traffic Scotland camera at Crocketford on the A75 which is closed to all traffic, We’ve only got a couple of inches here in Kirkcudbright but it’s just started snowing very heavy again so i figure i’ll be heading on the Quadbike t’morn to practice some 4wheel drifting fun on the roads 😀
edit : bugger…no linking to Traffic Scotland cameras, that’s spoiled all the fun 😥
Stirling just announced schools closed as of lunchtime – I can’t see it on their FB site, but mrs_oab is currently handing over children to parents having been told this and two mini_oabs texted to say they are being sent home immediately.
My Facebook feed popped up with one of those automatic “memories from n years ago” thing this week. It was pictures of a massive snowfall from 2013. I’m in Surrey BTW.
It is snowing rather heavily in South Lanarkshire at the moment though, and both South and North Lanarkshire shut all Primary and Secondary schools at lunchtime
Google alerts has been warning me of severe weather for the last two days, was reluctant to get out of bed this morning for fear of what lay in wait. -3ºC and blue skies – hardly severe. Off for a hilly two hour ride once I’ve found my gloves.
A couple of cm in Saddleworth…as expected causing road chaos. The beast from the east was no match for the trusty Brompton though and Northern Rail is running like clockwork (sort off).
