    Hmmm…almost rhymes.

I’m going to be in the Ottery St Mary area in August for a few days. Is there any good fun riding to be had?

I can see East Hill on Trailforks… Is that worthwhile or am I better travelling beyond.

You’ll be close to Haldon Forest, where there’s a waymarked trail centre and plenty of off-piste to be found. Woodbury Common is quite nice for some old-school XC, as well as Fire Beacon. For a long ride, the East Devon Trail links Woodbury and Fire Beacon, as well as some other crackers with a load of bridleways. Worth a look if you have a full day, don’t mind some serious elevation gain, and aren’t looking for gnar.

Haven’t ridden round that way for 22yrs but back in the day a mate of mine lived in Budleigh and we used to do some cracking rides. All good fun the old 26in 100mm alu hardtails. It was a long time ago and I can’t remember the exact routes, bur from a quick look on the OS map it was probably out to Woodbury common from Budleigh, over to East Budleigh, over to Otterton then back along the coast path. No idea how much of that is still rideable these days though. Probably best to head over to Woodbury common and find some routes from there.

Woodbury is the obvious one from Ottery. Loads of xc stuff as well as some jumps etc in a couple of areas. Easier to find everything with a guide.

Haldon is easy as it’s waymarked.

Scadson bike park isn’t a huge distance away.

    Ditto Dartmoor.

Thanks for the suggestions… some options to look into further.

@reeksy – I live in Ottery St Mary, so would be happy to show you around 🙂 I’m on summer hols from next Tuesday (teacher!)

East hill has some decent trails, but is a bit limited, especially since recent forestry work has killed a load of trails.

Woodbury has some excellent stuff if you know where to look.

Most weeks I’ll do a variation on a 40-45km loop from Ottery that takes in East hill and Woodbury. About 75% off-road, with 1200ish metres of climbing. Lots of singletrack and even a bit of jumpy stuff if one wishes.

    That sounds pretty good thanks.

Just deciding whether to bring my bike (Ripmo AF) or get rentals (might get to a couple more places over the two weeks I’m in the UK).
