Frame – £300
Forks – £200
Wheels – £100

Lev seatpost isn’t far off the most expensive part on there

Jambo. That looks great at any price, you have done well for the price.

How cheap ? Under £500 I guess, sort of thinking older Giants, Prophets etc.

Edit : As Jambo’s bike proves it would be interesting for other too, just to see what you can get for your money without spending a fortune. ( I am as guilty as anyone of spending £££)

Can’t remember exactly. A few used bits, about £70 for the frame, £80 for the revelations, £25 for the wheels. A few new bits £20 saddle, £60 dropper post, £60 Deore brakes. A few bits out of the spares box

EDIT found a pic from the first build up when the frame was new (to me) and I used forks, brakes and a seatpost from the spares box

I paid £200 for a Marin frame like that! After I mistakenly sold the first one I had.

A whopping £850. But only ridden once and with non stupid handle bars

I’m sure you could find one for alot less now

Fuel ex 6.5 I think

From memory all Fuel ex have an OK frame and shock. The Tora equiped ones were a bit let down by the forks

You could probably get something pretty decent second hand complete for £500, but hows this for leftfield… a Thudbuster LT? About £30-50 S/H.
If it’s a frame only that he’s after then I will have a Haibike carbon Heet RC frame/shock/BB/headset & dropper post in large (more like a medium) for sale next week at about £300, I could do it with wheels, fork etc if needed.

True cost is probably £800 or so, but the only thing bought for this I built for my daughter was the frame £75, powdercoat £60 and stickers £11.

The rest were my older bits that as a week riding in Wales proved, didn’t actually need replacing

Bought a 2yr old base level giant trance for 450 a few years ago. Back when they put fox shocks and toras on the lowest model, so still a pretty decent bike.

Here’s my current full suss. Not really, really cheap, frame was £320 off the classifieds and forks were £250 brand new from Alltricks.

Cheap is an interesting word.

My Yeti ASR cost me £2700 5 years ago and given the miles I’ve ridden on it, the fun I’ve had and the fact that it’s still my go to bike when I’m doing an all day ride in Wales it’s been incredibly cheap.

But you probably meant low cost rather than cheap.

I have a medium trek vrx frame with a vanilla r shock and rear disc mount I’d let go for cheap. I can throw in a Seatpost ,seatclamp and front mech to fit too.

No I meant cheap. My £3500 bike was an is worth every penny to me. Started the thread to see what was available for friend who is only an occasional rider, but it is also interesting to see what you can get on a budget.

The rest was sat around spare doing nothing

No pics easily to hand, but I got a maverick ml 7.5 with pikes and slx groupset for under £500 from here.

Bought a cove g-spot on eBay full bike for £400 a while back
And a Marin full sus with fox forks for similar amount. Must be plenty out there on eBay.
The 26″ wheel boardman full sus bikes would be a good buy.

Got an old Kona Coiler for £415, with not that old shock and forks on. Needed one new brake (well a bit of work on one brake really), a rear mech and a gear cable. So call it £500.

I have spent a bit more on it putting a double chainset on (rather than single and chain device) and a dropper post, but that’s another story. It weighs a tonne but it’s a blast to descend on.

Got the Titus Super Moto frame unused for £100 on Ebay, Boxxers for £70 on classifieds, chainset £30 from classifieds and Hope Pro front and XT rear on 719 wheels I think for £60 also classifieds. Most of the rest was in stock, as it were, in the shed although I paid over the odds for the Saint brakes, but they are really good. It’s a bit old school geometry but is actually a really nice ride – perfectly good for trail use apart from the weight and great for giving myself a fright at Gorton, Have a Joplin dropper now that was also a cheapo off here.

Paid £150 for the frame.

Paid £60 for the frame on this one.

Got this off here for £20. Got enough bits to build it up if need be. Bought as a spare for my £100 frame build below.

The best value bike I ever bought was a Kona Stinky (already this story wins the thread) frame for which I paid £140. I cobbled it together with spare bits and parts from my normal bike. I then used and abused it for two weeks in France and sold the frame when I got back for £130.

£10 for a bike for 2 weeks in the alps 8)

Not actually that cheap but I bought a lapierre spicy in great nick, with reverb and a selection of upgrades for 960 including courier. Rode it for 2 months before I changed anything and that was only out of preference!
it’s been to the alps since and been faultless!

This photo’s out of date now, but the Trance 3 owes me well under £200 and rides like a beast! Bargains to be had out there 🙂

Thanks rizla. I never expected to, but i love it! 2007 Trance 3 with a 140mm fork stuck on the front, shorter stem and wide bars. It’s not posh, but keeps up with friends on bikes which cost ten times as much 🙂 And I don’t worry about trashing it and riding it through the shite of winter.

Frame off ebay, components bottomish of the line shimano, cheap bars and an old road stem, wheels nicked of Mrs kilo’s old kona. Only the forks were expensiveish, now got some cheapo swinger spring shock on it and a dropper knicked off Mrs kilo’s old kona :-).
The class of the frame shines through – very good bike.
