Personally I think I should have been. 18months in I’m getting pain.

Well turned out I had broken my ankle a while back, radiographer said it looked like a box of broken biscuits that had been stuck back together, multiple weber fractures, consultant looked at it and said nothing to be done, off you pop…. have since developed an extra ankle bone and arthritis pain that stops me sleeping. My fault for not going to hospital when I did it.. just walked it off.

No answer. But I am happy they did not do surgery on my spine. Despite two months on my back in hospital, I am glad me and the consultant chose the none invasive route. I’ve had surgery go wrong and he agreed, unless healing wasn’t happening then they would go in. His suggestion not mine.

Anyway still riding, still smashing some miles, still in pain but that’s age too. Missing a fair chunk of one vertebra but I have no metalwork.

NHS really looked after me whilst in the system.

    Sort yourself out when out.

IIRC a broken ankle its a judgement call if it should be plated or not.  Healing without metal is always the best option if it will heal

I can’t see the image, but my view would be get it chopped off, as I’m not an ankle surgeon

Mrs FD is an orthopaedic surgeon but still wouldn’t comment on an Internet thread.

Speak to your GP and ask for a 2nd opinion

Medics will have made the best decision at the time. I have a plate and screws in my left wrist from a motorcycle accident years ago. Still troubles me, does that mean it shouldn’t have been plated.

We will never know until time travel is invented and I ride a little slower (and the Micra driver looks both ways).

Still might be worth the OP seeking a second opinion though, if it’s not too late.

X ray seems to show a fracture calcaneum (heel bone) not ankle.

Not enough information to comment about the management, but from what I remember of orthopaedics, it’s a contentious issue whether interventions are worthwhile or not as whatever you do they don’t tend to mend well.

    IANAE.
