Why are all bike lights so easy to remove?

I’m fed up with constantly having pockets full of bike lights, or loosing/dropping them

Are there any bike lights that require a screwdriver to remove for comuters?

    what are the other solutions

With the use of small self tappers almost any light can be screwed to its bracket….

Dynamo. If the lights have batteries then they need to be removable to change the batteries.

My commuter has an aluminium gopro mount on the bars (about £6 off ebay), and the light has a gopro mount (£1.50 from gearbest), which means it needs an allen key to remove form the bars. The rear light is the magicshine one, which I cut the connector off and spliced into the front light’s cable and shrink wrapped so that can’t be removed either. Now only the battery can be taken off easily.

Halfords have these but they aren’t cheap.

    what are the other solutions

Big zip ties, over the light and under the bars/round the seatpost. Use 2 and black to match the lights. Okay the can be cut but nothing is theft proof.

This is the reason I ended up getting a dynamo

Ditto on the Dynamo. Mine never need recharging and are a total bugger to remove!

    Any recommended Dynamo sets?

The GoPro mount solution also sounds interesting although I’m struggling to find the light you mention with a go-pro mount

    Bar mount:

    Light bracket:

Most light have the same screw size holding the light onto the bracket so you can swap them for that bracket.

One of my rear lights is screwed onto my rack? RSP Tourlite

Others are all removable. I tend to leave them on the bike to be honest, but I rarely leave my bike parked up for ages, usually just while I pop into a shop. There’s secure parking at work

For lights look at the B&M models, they comply with German road regs and don’t dazzle on-coming traffic.

For dynamos, there’s Schmidt SONs which are the top end stuff, then there’s SP and Shimano. Have a look over at Spa Cycles http://www.spacycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m2b0s133p0 for what’s available, they will also make up a wheel for you – http://www.spacycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m2b0s170p0

Light and Motion do a GoPro mount for their Urban lights, but then it makes them difficult to take off for charging.
It’s Ok if, like me you have a USB charger in the garage beside the bike.

    What did you get?

Well I’ve bought a Dynamo set:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381494583233
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381344426259

That will probably be attached/trialed on the system that lives in london

I’ve also bought one of these
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141838448895
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161947556530

This will probably be trialed on the bike that lives at home and goes to my garage every night to be charged

I’ve also bought one of these to have a play with the Chinese lights i use for mountain biking as I think the go-pro mount will work much better than the rubber bands

I’m a little scepticle about the bottle dynamo as most people seem to opt for hub dynamos but I’m not quite prepared to buy/rebuild a wheel yet.

I’ll see how I get on and go from there
