Pictures and any fancy parts on them would help as well. Check ebay and pinkbike etc. Sorry for your loss, hope you get them back.

Stick some pictures up so we know what to look out for. I stay in Portobello so will keep an eye out around this area. Which part of town were they taken from?

Hope you get the bikes back. Great you have pictures,I had a Trek stolen from my place. Gave police good description and picture. I got it back Monday after it’s two week “time away” + Toerag who stole it jailed for three months yesterday for recieving stolen goods!. Police work quickly up here (Lake District).

    Thanks for the support.

It all came as a shock as were on holiday abroad at the moment. We got a phone call from our neighbour saying both of our cars a missing, any way turns out house has been broken into and everything of value has gone including my prized bike. Thankfully the police has secured the building for us.

Was live in the Craigleith area. So be vigilant.

The Trek fuel ex7 is a pretty rare build.
    The non standard parts-
Slx brakes with ice tech rotors
    Slx clutch mech
Red race face nw ring 30t
Planet x el guapo 760mm white
    Rockshox reverb 125mm
    Specialised henge saddle
    Token heggset in black
    Xpedo curve pedals red

The kona was completely standard but did have xpedo curve pedals in black

And the Boardman, we wont worry about, but it did have awesome manitou minute forks 🙁

The internet here is pretty crap so ill try and get pics the best i can.

    Thaank.

captainmo: I suspect we’re pretty close to being neighbours (I’m between the Vic and Holiday Inn).

I “lost” 2 bikes and a chunk of kit 8 months back but in different circumstances.

Bizzrely I know who did it but the police arent too motivated about finding missing stuff but they nabbed him for other misdemeanours.

Anyway: I tried to post your photos above (rather than just embedded links) from your links above but they dont work. I suspect you’ve set picasa album as private or something. Just to be sure: try these settings:

    Embed image
    Select size
    Hide album link
    Image only (no link)

In the meantime I’ll keep my eyes peeled.

    This is a test:

Yeahhhhhhh : it worked: but I had to copy the image out of your picasa to mine: I hope that’s ok?

I’ll post up the others when I can if that’s ok with you

There must be a gang working Edinburgh at the moment, I know 2 people who lost several/all of their very expensive bikes.
One of them had bikes in a garage which was described as almost like Fort knox!
It seems if they want your bikes, they’re getting them no matter what security you have.

Hooking bikes up with some sort of alarm system as well as chains (which don’t seem to work) might be the way to go.

And another one stolen from the links above. At least this is bike realated as there is a bike wheel in the background. God I hope he hasnt just driven over someone!

Yes many thank coulda for posting the pictures. Feel free to do them all. Just a bit hard to do this all on the ipad.

Haha nah we were just loading the bikes out the back, does look like we’ve killed a bike though hahha.

Was a mighty shock to find out everything has gone whilst on holiday! Luckily we are insured on everything.

Just a note, the volvo had a genuine roof bar equipped at the time of theft.

    Thanks for everything chaps 🙂

Just an update, got a phone call from the police saying an armed squad found the defender being driven around in muirhouse. Hopefully this is the start of the process of getting the cocks caught!

Really sorry to hear about that – especially with you being away on holiday.

I’ve heard of a number of bike thefts from Edinburgh – I had one stolen when I was down there on holiday at the tail end of last year, and there were a few others taken on the same night from a different part of the city. There’s no sign of mine turning up yet. It’s an unusual recumbent, and I was told it might be destroyed or dumped because it would be difficult to move on. Either that, or it’s being displayed as a ‘trophy piece’ above some criminal’s fireplace!

Hopefully yours will be returned safely. Maybe a load of bikes will turn up when the police track down your Defender.

Jesus wept. That is bloody awful. Glad you got the Landy back – as above, hope they get the wee bastids.

Will keep an eye out in Edinburgh.

Good news about the Defender, here in Cumbria they are popular with theives and go walkies regularly. Hopeful you will get more good news soon…

Yeah, they obviously aren’t the cleverest of people. If it was me id have taken everything as far away from the place i stole something from…not muirhouse, which is not too far away! Idiots!

Yes the Volvo is/was a terrific car and was in immaculate condition. Shame really, but it can be replaced unlike our defender, which we have put a lot of energy into renovating. So just as well thats found.

    Thanks chaps!

Hoping to get some advice from you guys.

Got valuations for the bikes, £2400 for the Trek and £330 for the Boardman kind of happy with those values. So im going to put those bikes together to make £2730.

On the wheelies website three bikes have caught my eye very strongly.
The Kona Process 153. The Merida One-Sixy 1 and 2. All three have pikes which I’m very keen on, especially coming from 32 evolutions!

The Kona I will have to put in an extra £200ish, and about 500 for the OneSixty 1. Where as with the cheaper Merida ill save £100 to spend on some goodies.

I know test riding is the obvious sensible thing to do but i can’t find anyone who sells Merida bikes near edinburgh?

Any thoughts to share espeically on the Meridas, Not seeing much on those atm. Cheers

Oh and good news, when we got home from holiday we went for a drive round Muirhouse and we found the stolen Volvo! A little damaged here and there but going to get fixed!

Great news on the cars. Hopefully you’ll get even better news on the bikes.

With the Volvo you’re probably quite lucky. My motorbike was stolen a 4 weeks ago. The police found it, but didn’t tell me for 3 weeks (despite finding it abandoned on the day it was stolen, with numberplate intact) – They didn’t let me know it had been found, just passed it on to a recovery company whos fees run to £20 a day storage. To get the bike back I now have to pay £150 + 20 days @ £20. The same fate would have befallen your Volvo.

Like I say – good luck with the rest of your stuff. I hate thieves.

captaintomo – sorry to hear that your bikes and cars got taken. but glad to hear theres good news on the cars.
with regards to Wheelies, they are the insurance industry’s preferred retailer for replacement bikes but from what i gather they arent the best to deal with.
as you’re located in scotland i think you could make a strong case to your insurer that it would be unwise for you to purchase a bike without having ridden it first to make sure it fits you etc., and that given the distance between you and wheelies (in south wales) it would be unfair of them to expect you to return the bike at your own expense all the way down to south wales in the event of a warranty claim etc.
with that in mind i think you should push for a cash settlement and then buy locally.
if you dig your heels in and in the case of the trek mention that the bike was more custom spec and that any bike wheelies provide would not be a like for like replacement, you’d have a strong claim for a cash settlement which is the only way for you to be put back in the position you were in before the loss occured.
i have a letter template that i used with my insurer that may help you (thanks DannyBGoode)

I have decided to go ahead and buy the 2015 Kona Process 153 from wheelies. I think i actually got a good deal tbh as the bike was valued at 2400 and I only bought it for 1400 quid and I definitely didn’t spend 1k of extras on it! Combied with the boardman, I only had to cover a few quid for the Kona! And this is a bike with Rockshox Pikes! Can’t wait! Had a test ride of one before I ordered, just to make sure and it was amazing! Shame I have to wait a month!

Now I am waiting for wheelies to phone me back now about all my stolen kit that was in the car, I think I will try to push for cash settlement here as they don’t stock anything the same like my Ixs knee pads. Not sure.
