Rome accommodation recommendations

Me, my wife, 18 year old daughter & 16 year old son will be in Rome for a couple of nights in October.

City centre hotels, hostels & air BnB’s are looking a little pricey for a 2 night stay. Can anyone recommend some accommodation with good transport links not too far out of Rome?

we stayed in one near the vatican, it was called fragrance st peter.  just off a main rd with plenty of buses into the centre.

think we got it on booking dot com, and we tend to look for decent value places so it may fit the bill?

We stayed at A Trastevere da M.E. and really liked it (we loved the district).  All the main sites aren’t too far away either. Not much too look at from the outside but nice areas to wander in the evenings.  The non descript church opposite has some really interesting and not widely advertised early Christian catacombs too.

Like bubs I came to recommend Trastevere, or Arenula district if you can find something with sleeping arrangements to suit. Walkable to Coliseum and centre (Pantheon etc) and Trastevere is a nice place to walk on an evening with lots of restaurant choice. I am assuming a budget similar to London (expect around £150 per room per night, so £600 for all of you for 2 nights)?

Just before the pandemic hit I was at the British School at Rome and stayed nearby, it’s Municipio II district, very quiet area, various hotels etc but as @konagirl says, the going rate is around £150 a night.

The tram is nearby and it’s a pleasant walk to the main centre and sites etc through Villa Borghese.

We stayed here, really enjoyed it.  Coliseum and touristy bits in easy walking distance.

Also had a surprisingly great night on the Saturday when we returned after a meal, they had a really good musical duo in the hotel bar.

Highly recommend an ebike tour, loads of stuff kinda close together but a chaffing drag in the heat.

Depends how much you want to nosey but was good for a 5 mins explore per ” insta” moment.

We stayed at best western plus universo, decent enough place but no idea on cost.

Stayed here a couple of weeks back (five in a family room to keep costs down), quiet, tidy district, well connected on the bus, nice restaurants and a little pool invaluable in August. Great staff!!
