Wowwwww.. and I thought I had a bike problem. 😯

I think of all those… the Kestrel 4000, The Look 695, The Zipp Tri Bike and one of the Litespeeds get my virtual money.

(Not that that I could afford any of them!)

    Some interesting stuff in there.

Love that Velotron training bike, looks like the copper disk should be lethal!

And the Derny/board track racer is pretty cool too.

Can’t decide if this is the most hideous thing ever or quite wonderful!

I was going to post that, it’s like a new paperclip bike! How are you posting images, or are you printscreening them?

What a collection, and they look like they’re actually set up to be ridden too and not just put on show, which is nice.

Shame they are all Robin William size.

    figured as much.

It was a fashion in triathlon bikes for a while because the seatube is near vertical it’s very hard to make it aero (the downtube is at an angle so even a round shape appears oval to the wind), so they just got rid of it.

That Kestral 4000 was bike porn when I was a teenager back in the mid-late eighties

I remember seeing those when they came out & thought they looked rather tasty, belt drive carbon ss with high end carbon wheels & finishing kit, totally overkill but damn tasty nonetheless – bet it goes like the clappers!

The way they have listed the bike sizes is ‘interesting’ to say the least – I am guessing that they didn’t get the local bike shop to help out

That’s the only one I was remotely interested in! Great choice, be interested to see what it goes for.

Most of those are really awful looking though.

He was about 5’8 ? so most would be small or med?

To be fair, it’ll be way too small for me and I doubt I’ll win it anyway. But a cool thing to hang on the wall. Just a shame about the $>£ situation at the moment.

I had a Ciocc Challenger (with drops not like his bars) of similar vintage until my son decided to ride it into a parked car recently. Now it is dead

I used to have one of those Schwinn Apple Pickers…

You could pull wheelies for miles on it.

A mate was rapping for UltraSport when they had K2. I ended up having a ride on that Proflex. it was the future I though. I was wrong, but the active suspension was a cool idea.

    What an amazing collection!

Seeing Robin Williams’ bike collection reminded me of that saying “money can’t buy you happiness, but it can buy you a bike, and that’s pretty close”. Such a pity he didn’t find inner peace in one of those 102 bikes.

The problem with dementia is that it can rob you of many aspects of your previous self. People often think of it only as a loss of memory – at least initially, but there are many more wonderful things that it can deprive you of. One of these is the ability to make good judgements, another can make you more impulsive and you can also develop depression and anxiety – not only secondarily as a result of feelings about your symptoms and experience, but also as a primary symptom…

So, I don’t think he never knew peace – probably more that his recent symptoms included loss of judgement and/or extreme anxiety or bleak depression .

Makes me really sad looking through those. From what little has been released in the press by his family it sounds that he was Really suffer with dementia. I understand he battled with depression etc, and that does increase the risk of developing that awful illness that robs you of who you are, among other things he was suffering with this,

    Lewy body dementia
Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) is a type of dementia that gradually worsens over time.[1][2] Additional symptoms may include fluctuations in alertness, seeing things that other people do not, slowness of movement, trouble walking, and rigidity.[1] Excessive movement during sleep and mood changes such as depression are also common. (From Wiki )

It’s tragic but if I’m honest having seen this illness ( albeit a different type) I’m not sure that I’d make a different decision in his position, all the beautiful bikes in the world won’t help you when you start to forget everything you are,

Mrs JAMJ is a specialist in dementia – although now in a different field. His actions are far from atypical.
