So work is sending me to Nevada for a week, have a couple of days up front to “acclimatise”. Has anyone done any decent MTB routes around the area, given that its potentially a bit remote is riding alone ill advised/what tyres for desert scrub/will I die of a snake/bear/spider attack? Got any suggestions for hire places Las Vegas Cyclery This place seems cheapish and reachable from the hotel we are being put up in?

Also, given that it’s Vegas, I’ve never been and tend to head to the mountains when I get holiday, what and where is worth taking in and around the casino/strip type bit?

    thanks

I was out there in Jan and tried to get over to Bootleg Canyon but Las Vegas Cyclery wouldn’t run a trip just for me. That was a sunday too! Damn annoying.

LVC are great, or they were for me…..supplied a great bike/guide Ellesworth I think the bike was…there seems to be only one area where everybody rides …Red Rock Mountains..it’s great fun and can be done as a half or full day….not scarily up/down but just great to be out of the city ripping up some dry dusty trails……cactuses and sharp rocks are the enemy, so don’t fall off

In Vegas……Gun Store – go there and shoot some awesome stuff-the best

The Wynne hotel has a fabulous show called “le reve” go there!!!!!! if my advice here is wrong, I’ll eat my own feet on STW

helicopter ride into Grand Canyon……. Use the main company ( can’t remember name)…. blew me away big style

Great restaurants, in hotels (all accessible free)gamble with a tenners worth of chips and drink free all night….move freely from classy 5 star hotel to 5 star hotel beer in hand….24/7

Awful really ;-)………I’d add jealous to this but I’ll be in Bahamas tomoz whooooooop !!

Let us know how it goes

Thanks for the replies all. Getting a guide is a good idea then, rather than gurning at Strava and winging it?

bootleg canyon. don’t need a guide, the fellas in LVcyclery will give you a trail map with all the routes on, rent you a bike etc. the canyon is right behind the shop and the trails are very easy to follow. ride up the canyon, back down and repeat several times on a different trail. easy peasy. there is a decent xc trail too

I did a MTB tour with McGHIE’S and I highly recommend them.

Door to door service to and from my hotel, they swapped the brake levers over to UK spec and didn’t mind that it was just me on my own and not a group. Rode some spectacular trails through Red Rock Canyon with a guide who really knew his stuff.

Recommend LVC – had a great guide (Brandon). The wife and I did the “red rock weekend”. Highly recommended a great break away from the “strip”.
