Revolut payment – hold my hand? :D

ive been asked to pay a deposit for an apartment abroad by a friend of mine in greece.  hes given me his phone number and said i can pay be revolut, its easiest for him.

i have a revolut account, had it years but never use it and only ever tested it out once in a chippy i think.

ive opened the app up and tried to add his phone number, but i still dont understand how to send him some money.  i have about a tenner in there (£) and probably need to add a few quid and then convert to euro and then send.  how do i do this please?

revolut is asking me for permission to access my contact list which im not ever so happy about.  ive added his phone number but just dont understand the revolut process tbh.

advice taken and sorted thanks.  which leaves me to ask, should i just bin revolut then?  any value in having an account these days?

if ive got a tenner in there whats the best way of getting rid of it, can i transfer it to my bank account or should i just use the card at the local shop?

Exchange rate for PayPal likely to be far worse than Revolut… as you’re paying a friend, neither of you want to be out of pocket, so worth sorting Revolut. Can pay in either currency, to avoid any double conversions as well.

yes thats one of the things that was confusing me.  i added his phone number, it found his account, but then i couldnt really see him in a list of contacts anywhere to pay.  tried adding him again, it said hes already there, couldnt see an easy way to send him money.

i can see why youd think that but im 100% happy, known him for over a year online with video calls, hes trying to improve my greek, me his english.  its his wifes holiday apartment and we’re going to stay there one night while in lesvos next month.

For the amount that I’m guessing is changing hands, the difference will be pennies. If it’s more than a couple of quid I’d be gobsmacked

Agreed. I thought it might be thousands for a deposit for a flat they or a family member were moving into… and then thousands in rent later… I misunderstood.

For a holiday stay… PayPal.

Fraud wise… also agree… but if paying “a friend” without buyer protection in place, PayPay isn’t going to be much better.

revolut, go onto payment section click [+] button add details ie find friend in contacts or number, send them a message in the app, then you can click on send/recieve to make a payment on the message section. really simple..

Revolut’s name appears a lot in the fraud reporting we do. It’s, basically, very easy to open an account with them and their ID processes aren’t as rigorous as other’s, so it’s a great place for scammers to open accounts as the name on the account doesn’t necessarily have to be the person who’s actually getting the money…

I’m not saying that if you have a Revolut account then you’re money might go missing, but I see so much fraud where Revolut has been a factor that I just avoid it entirely.

ok thanks for that.   also interested from an insider what the issue with revolut is.  im happy to never use them again as i only looked this time cos he’d said it was easiest for them, but if theres any doubt whatsoever about their security im happy to uninstal the app.
