Firstly thanks for all the comments and on reflection paying circa £1,000 to upgrade some parts is still going to leave me with and old style bike.

What changed my mind was “TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsSTR” comments regarding geometry etc

So, a new bike it is but do I go hardtail of full suspension? My inclination would be the latter as I go to Scotland several times a year.

Can the Singletrack ers recommend something (can be ex demo) around the 3K mark? \It doesn’t have to be the very latest model

I have seen a MARIN ALPINE TRAIL CARBON 2 FULL SUSPENSION MOUNTAIN BIKE on sale at 3.3K
    Thanks in advance

If it was me I would be picking up one of the Stumpjumper Evos that are been heavily discounted due to the new one been released today. My choice would be the Expert Evo in birch/taupe
