If I ever find a Stunt Car Racer emulator, I may never see daylight again.
RustyNissanPrairieFull MemberHmmm – I’d be interested in HardDriving
Arcade club in Bury has an original arcade version, it’s probably my favourite game in there, it’s bloody difficult though!

Was at the Arcade Club a few weeks ago. That’s what restarted my interest in retro gaming.
1codybrennanFree MemberI built a Defender cabinet last year. Half height (bar-top), running a thing called a JROK, which is an FPGA reproduction of the hardware that ran that series of Williams cabinets.
Reproduction is perfect as it has an actual 6809 in it as a dedicated CPU, and the controls are as close to the arcade original as I could get. I still suck at it horrendously though.

Perfect Dark was better than Goldeneye in my opinion…..
Was it Perfect Dark, I wanted to love it but there was no option to invert the Y axis on the controller so I found it unplayable?
Tom83Full MemberI loved both games, and played the snot out of both of them. But PD was just better for me. The multiplayer was so much fun. Laptop guns hidden in sneaky places was always hilarious.
Having your mates all in the same room to game was special. Online multiplayer is still fun, but for me you can’t beat having people physically with you. I’ve got a phantom dead leg just thinking about it!
oceanskipperFull MemberWe used to spend literally hours playing network Doom in my office after work. 3 or 4 of us in the same room. It was magic (once we had spent hours trying to work out how to get it working in the first place, stupid IPX multicast bollox. Novell I’m looking at you!)
Good times ?
EDIT – that ? was supposed to be an emoji. FFS!
1sc-xcFull MemberThere was a couple of years that without doubt, me and my mates were the best at the world at battle mode/block fort/MK64
We played first to 100 every night, must have played hundreds of thousand matches on that one map.
We were totally shit at the rest of the game.

Name the date and time!

Myself and a few mates occasionally do this still, although it’s more likely to be Unreal Tournament or Serious Sam. Either will run on a potato, it’s quite easy to dig out a few crappy old laptops..
Mmmmonster Kill!!!

Good idea
dlrFull MemberLeeds have now opened their new cafe area, lot more room. Bury is no doubt a nicer venue, much more atmosphere etc but I prefer the games selection at Leeds plus I get annoyed at the pinballs at Bury having so many bulbs out that you can’t play most, at least with my vision hah. Also Leeds has Scud Racer which is my fav game across both.
chestercopperpotFree MemberLeeds has Scud Racer
Yeah but he doesn’t have a Daytona 2 at any of his arcades!?!
Leeds has got a Namco Starblade, two player Sega Rally 3, a rare two player Sega Vitual On and Sega House of the Dead 4.
Not seen Andy for years! Was going to badger him to get a two player Sega Outrigger with stick & trackball controller (rare as **** even in Japan) and JJ squawkers. He had a Sega Radical Riders but I’m not sure where it went!
The F355 Challenge (a difficult arcade racer) is at Blackpool!
dlrFull MemberF355 was at Bury first then went so must have been moved there, quite enjoyable as different to most racers
Luckily my local small retro arcade has Daytona 2 🙂 Also the rare but rather dodgy controlling Sega Touring Car
flyingmonkeycorpsFull Member@teaandbiscuits – quick update on the Trimui (it did turn up before I set off on holiday).
I’m impressed. I bought it without an SD card (heard they’re usually dire, plus I get stressed when there’s too much to choose from, so I don’t want 10,000 games). I set up my own and updated the firmware following a guide online with no probs.
It seems to run any Playstation games (and earlier) I throw at it. So far I’ve tried Ridge Racer, Tomb Raider, Tekken 3 and Street Fighter Alpha 3. All good.
Older consoles fine too.
Controls are okay – joypad is not the best, I’ve got about a 50% hit rate on Street Fighter specials, lower with super moves. That could be more down to my lack of practice, though. Face buttons are fine if a bit small. Shoulder buttons the same (I’ve seen some reviews say they’re terrible, but they seem okay). Not really tried the analogue sticks yet.
Overall ergonomics fine for what it is, I’d say. Wouldn’t want to play it for hours, but that’s not why I bought it. Fine for an hourish Street Fighter session.
Screen is nice. It’s 16:9 which is mostly pointless as all the games are 4:3, though I think it plays PSP games which are 16:9.
Can’t really comment on battery yet as I’ve not played it enough.

It was I had most of the track records on it.
My brother tried it. His review “it’s shit” 😀 seems to be most peoples experience of it. After a few corners most give up and go play (Out Run) something easier. You’d often see the machine abandoned with the car in a gravel pit and the timer counting down!
Scud Racer is great not played Sega Touring Cars.
I’d argue 4 player Outrigger is one of the best arcade multiplayer experiences going. Shame no one has heard of it and it’s so rare even though Naomi cabinets are modular and probably the least rare cabs you can buy!
Some added maturity!
namastebuzzFree MemberI’ve still got N64, GC, Wii, PS2, Xbox360, Dreamcast, MegaDrive, SNES & Gameboy.
Last year I ran a retro games night at our church & Goldeneye on the N64 was by far the most popular.

I must admit I’d never heard of it either.
Is it any good on the Dreamcast? I’ve got 4 regular DC controllers. Does it need a special controller?
1jamesozFull MemberFor anyone interested in retro emulation on Android , I’ve been bored due to being injured.
I’ve used Pi 4 and PC to play Amiga and console games, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by Retro Arch and similar on Android. Also had it working well on an iPhone 12 mini but the screen is tiny.
My old Work Moto G62 is capable of running PS1 and PSP games very nicely.
I’ve even bought a controller that clips to the phone.
chestercopperpotFree MemberIs it any good on the Dreamcast? I’ve got 4 regular DC controllers. Does it need a special controller?
Yes it’s a great 4 player spilt screen (poor single player though) and no it doesn’t need a special controller. For FPS games (Outrigger can be third of first person view, you can choose) on DC you can usually set the controls so the face buttons do Fwd, L, R, Rev and the analogue stick does look/camera movement. It works surprisingly well! The arcade machine had a joystick for character movement and trackball for look/moving the camera around.
It’s exactly what consoles should excel at but don’t anymore! DC had some outstanding 4 and 2 player split screen games for it’s time. It can output 480p which helps these old machines still look alright on modern displays!
If you’re into shumps Border Down for DC (single player) still stands up and isn’t easy to find in arcades or anywhere else for that matter. You can DL ISO’s for all the games so it’s not much of risk if you don’t like them.
