Me and MsGinge have one whole night, away from the kids, coming up in Paris soon and need to book somewhere to stay.

Looking online it seems impossible to chose between the hundreds of options so I was wondering (as usual) if anyone here can recommend something.

Ideally I’d like something fairly central and would prefer small/quirky over big spa type places so long as they come with big comfy beds. But happy to look at anything that people have enjoyed.

Not in the train station, the Police kick you out.

We too are trying to trawl through the maze of options. So any recommendations would be welcome as well.

Do you want classical type hotel or more modern type? When you say central, would you be ok with 10 minutes on the metro to the centre or do you want to be within walking distance of the main tourist sites? Also what sort of budget per night?

My brother lives out near Nation which is still very accessible for the centre but generally get a bit more for your money. I stopped here last time I visited which was a nice boutique type hotel

I like Mama Shelter hotels too, one in east Paris.

There’s this place too called The People

Not stopped here personally but in a good location right next to one of the main Metro hub stations so very well connected. Great views too from the rooftop bar and not too far from some superb bars and restaurants.

Thanks for those ones, look a lot more interesting than a lot of the things I’ve seen so far.

in general quite happy with a shot hop to get to the hotel from the central areas, just nothing too far out that it wastes a decent chunk of our time there. Budget wise I sort of had £250-300 in mind initially but could go a bit higher if it would make a big difference in what we get  or if I’ve just badly judged how much it is to stay in Paris

Bonsoir Madame nr Jardin du Luxembourg has superior rooms in the price bracket iirc. Couple of mins walk from Rennes metro, so direct to Monmarte, Place de la Concorde.  Or walk through the park and down to left bank, ile de la cite, sorbonne etc (and the RER across to tour Eiffel)

Not a hotel but really liked this rooftop bar with great views

Pretty much hidden down a side street and you get in via an unassuming yard and shonky lift.

This hotel is more central and walking distance from places like the Louvre (well about 20 minutes which is my idea of a short walk)

If going by train, this is very convenient and our favourite place to stay

Wherever you choose to stay type the name of the hotel into Google with the words “punaise de lit” then “bed bugs”. Even if nothing comes up freeze your bags and contents for 80 hours when you get home.

It’s not just Paris, I found a  bed bug in my baggage after a stay in Germany this year.

Your friend at work made me smile, bruneep.

I have no recommendations of posh hotels in Paris because I prefer the cheap cheerful spartan and clean Première Class type of establishment.

Has the bed bug situation improved? I’d completely forgotten about them.

The hotel we might be staying at, has a vacuum cleaner in the room, is this for bedbug sucking up and if not, what a weird thing to have in a room?

Bed bugs are simply a symptôme of peoples increased propensity to do travel. They are thriving on our increased mobility and are not going away. If you use accomodation othet travellers use you will come accross them. We do a lot of walking holidays moving on every night to a new hotel/hostel/b+b. Sooner or later we get contaminated and then become transporters of the beasties till we get home and put eveything in the freezer.

Hotels regularly get infected, some are more determined to decontaminate than others. There has been an anti bed bug initiative that has been taken seriously in some hotels but some don’t give a damn and victim blame if you report bugs. So check on the Net before you book and routinely freeze when you get home.

We stayed here earlier in the year. Wanted somewhere central’ish between the sights and Gare du Nord:

ibis Paris Grands Boulevards Opera 9th – ALL (accor.com)

Cheap, excellent breakfasts, everything you needed from a room to kip for the night, 10 minute walk from Gare du Nord, 20 minutes walk to the Champs Elysees/Louvre etc via the Place Vendome. Spent a full day walking around without using the Metro plus theres an excellent bistro 20 seconds from the hotel – Faubourg 34.

We stayed here for 3 nights 2 years ago. Rooms have a view of the Eiffel Tower which is amazing at night. https://all.accor.com/hotel/2175/index.fr.shtml

We stayed here last year – https://www.hotel-arcade.com/eng2/, about 5 mins from Plac de la Concorde. Walkable to Sacre Cour, all around the main touristy bits in the centre and an excellent Decathlon store nearby just beside the Ralph Lauren store! Not sure if it’d be in budget, bookiung.com might have some deals.

Stayed here last year for a couple of nights, central & quirky plus clean etc.

Not a chain and we had a view of Notre Dame from the room.
