I fancy getting a single speed bike for commuting (3-4miles each way). Anyone got any suggestions what, where from and how much I should be expecting to pay?

    Thanks!

For three miles, i’d buy a pashley roadster or raleigh equivalent. If you want a road bike, a Kona Paddy Wagon. Spend £300 for the former, double that for the latter. And that includes mudguards.

Specialized Langster, I picked up a used one off here for £200 and think it’s great

i got an On-One Pompetemain for such duties. Its got space for mudguards and a rack and is a pretty decent ride to.

You could also look at 2nd hand Road rats.

    Or £50 cheaper for a v-brake version.
