Rear facing camera

After another episode of mouth breathing knuckle dragger threatening me while bring the kids home from nursery/ school – anyone recommend a decent camera can mount rearward? Have a chili bullet camera thing on bars, seems decent enough – just get another or something else?

Unfortunately didn’t catch this interaction as it was behind me as they tried force way past at a junction we were both waiting to exit. Passenger tried get out to start a fight, fortunately another passenger dragged him back into the car.

Fuming about it and had enough of these tossers.

A bit more bling is the Garmin Varia RCT715, gets you radar and rear light as well.

Third option is a 360 camera on your helmet, not used others but the Gopro max is a bit limited battery life wise, maybe 75minutes.

I use one of them. Set up so the radar triggers the camera so it’s not recording all the time, but only when someone gets close enough. I like that it shows on my head unit what’s behind and where they are, and also when it’s recording. Quality isn’t GoPro but it’s good enough for its purpose.

I use a third gen Fly6, after a second gen was lost. Works fine with a decent light. Battery life isn’t stellar and has let me down a few times on rides longer than three hours. I use it for commuting and for that it’s been very good. Early ones had terrible mounts, but the latest gen has sorted that.

I also have a Varia without the camera, which is a super tool and a better safety device for general riding (camera is for when it’s already happened, varia warns beforehand). I sometimes use both, but would choose the Varia over the Fly6. Battery life is excellent. The combined camera Varia is a bit of a lump, and doesn’t use the standard Garmin quarter turn mount, and hence the nice seatpost mounts I bought for my Varia rear light.

Both serve a purpose, and the combined Varia light/camera should offer the best combo, but in reality it’s a little compromised. Dcrainmaker gave an honest review of all items. Arrived at the same conclusion.

Aldi Fly6 clones are fine in daylight and will last 4+ hours.

IME many cameras are compromised in the dark so you might have to consider this specifically, season-dependent

I run Cycliq front and back, Fly6 isn’t perfect but its probably the best out of a limited bunch.
I’ve had every version and they, tend to get a couple of years out of it before the battery dies.

Quality is more than good enough for police reports.

I have one on these on my rack – means you can use a seatpost mount on a smaller diameter bit of metal.

Just bought the new fly 6 as mine was suffering a bit of battery crapness after 5 years use.

Fly6 has a rack mount and that is on my commuter and recumbent trike.  Standard two bolts two inches apart. Might that fit? You can P-clip it to any tubing as needed

I used to have a chilli cam facing backwards, IIRC it was using their frame mount and fixed onto the seat tube. This doesn’t work on my current bike so stopped using it.

I think they sell a mount for fixing it under the saddle for about £15

We have one of those yes, it works. it does need a go-pro mount so can be fiddly to fit anywhere other than on a  seatpost – and the included mount doesn’t seem very robust, I’ve heard they don’t last long so consider an immediate upgrade. Ours is on the pannier rack at the back of the tandem, I ended up getting a custom mount 3d printed for about a tenner

Turns out those slackening spokes/ flexy wheel were due to a broke axle, oops 😁

1080 wide angle. Runs in a continuous loop and while is isnt stating the run time other than that of the light itself, it might mean that run time is the run time inc camera, in which case thats up to 110h

Not 100% perfect, and in comparison to a go pro or probably Garmin, but in the event of an accident any footage is better than no footage and it will show the offending motorist doing what they shouldnt.
