looking at a rab momentum shell, anybody have any first hand experience good or bad?
mainly for walking the pup, not riding!

Picked up Rab Laktok eVent last week, haven't really used it in anger yet but well made, nice and light

Had a Rab event for a year or so now for walking the 4 miles to work through winter. Does what it says on the tin, great bit of kit. I found sizing difficult.

The Momentum's a lightweight, technical alpine shell, way OTT for walking the dog. It's cut short to work with a harness so your crotch'll get wet if it rains. If you want a Rab waterproof, take a look a Bergen. Or if you want to use it on the bike occasionally as well, a Drillium.

Good jacket, but not really designed or intended for dog walking unless you habitually take your dog up hard alpine mountaineering routes...

+1. Get a longer jacket otherwise the rain will pour down the jacket directly onto your crotch which is a miserable experience (and you'll look like you pizzed y'self). Trust me.

My rab jacket is 4 years old still going strong, washed and revived occasionally

Got a Rab Bergen here, rather tasty jacket, very waterproof and breathable. Not the longest though, so make sure your waterproof trousers are high enough to make sure you dont have an embarrassing gap.

Funnily enough, I was just wondering what to replace my Drillium with as it leaks like a sieve. Durability of the thinner eVent jackets is mince, mine has seen two years of use and soaks me after a 20 min commute.

However, the thicker ones might be better - Go Outdoors have a Rab Latok at £100 in store at the moment.

I've got a RAB On Demand e Vent smock, very light, very waterproof and breathable. I did see them at Go Outdoors for less than £100.

If you've not tried it yet, wash in normal detergent, then rewash in some sort of tech wash - Nikwax or Grangers both work - double rinse, then reproof to restore the water repellent finish on the face of the jacket. It may be that it's not the eVent membrane leaking, but the outside of the jacket wetting out, breathability going through the floor and you getting wet from condensation. Or, of course, it may just be leaking...

thanks you all for your help.

i liked the momentum/latok because they are short. i cant stand long jackets but will try the others mentioned
above for comparison.

Website say £180, are you sure about that? Still sounds good though as they were £250+ in a Millets I wandered through on Monday

I've got a Rab Momentum, and I love it. It breathes really well, is really simple and lightweight and I think looks good too. I've started enjoying the rain starting, because I love putting up the hood, tightening the toggles and feeling cocooned in dry safety. I hope that's not weird.

It was on the front page of their site advertised as in-store only. Haven't seen it for a couple of days though...

I have the Latok Alpine and use it for hillwalking in the highlands. Have found it to be excellent so far - well cut and very breathable. Dunno if I'd go to all that expense for a jacket for dog walking though.

everything that is event or paclite is that sort of money. getting wet is getting wet or is the rain wetter in scotland 😆 😆

Bit of a rab fan boy and amongst other rab stuff I have got the baltoro guide jacket. That may be worth a look.

Its a winter lightweight soft shell that although not waterproof is weatherproof (and can be waterproofed a bit more with grangers or similar). Kept me warm all last winter. They are around £100 or less if you shop around. Look good with jeans in the pub as well.

They can feel a small fit but are designed for athletic fit (and skinny climbers).

Funny you should say that but out walking in the mountains in the west highlands for 7 hours I'm imagining it's likely I'm gonna be p!shed on a bit more than someone out walking their dog. The only reason I bought an eVent jacket was the material is much more breathable than GoreTex and with the exertion of hill walking I might see the benefit of extra breathability.

"The Latok jacket has quickly won critical acclaim as the garment of choice for Scottish winter climbing, winter Alpinism and expeditions. Use of 3 layer eVent® fabric ensures unsurpassed breathability and comfort combined with continuous durable performance. Specialist design features offer full storm protection even in the most extreme conditions. "

If you think that's what you need then s'up to you

Got one. Use it as my riding jacket when the weather turns foul. It may not be a cycling jacket but to be honest, it's better than any cycling jacket I've ever used. The hood will cover a helmet when it gets monsoon like, the wire peak and volume adjuster work well, the arms are generous in their length, it's light and most imporantly it breathes better than Pacshi*e. It also doubles as my baby walking/ hillwalking / scrambling jacket. The sizing chart Rab use is pretty spot on. Medium for a 40 inch chest.

Cheers

Sanny
