Quick toilet/soil pipe connection question.

Need to put a new floor in our ensuite shower. I’m intending to put a thin sheet of ply down probably under vinyl tiles of some kind. The neatest way to do this will be remove the bog and go right to the back of the room but this is going to rise the level of the outlet by maybe 10mm.

At the moment there is just a standard straight coupling there. What do I need to get in its place? I’m assuming there’s very little tolerance of misalignment with a normal one.

Try not to go for a flexible pipe, they break after around 10 years in service. You can get an adjustable pan connector, it may move the pan psoition slightly to get it central, the one linked below is 12mm offset, so probably a direct fit once the floor has been raised:

I had the same issue in our bathroom, but by more than 10mm.

I cut the pipe flush (groan) to the wall, and fitted a longer rigid pan connector. This had enough tolerance in the joints to make up the difference. Or use a flexy (make sure to buy a good one, not a part you want to fail!). If space is limited there are offset pan cons; straight/ a bit offset/ full bodge. They all work fine.

Mcalpine offset connector. 2 sizes of offset available at Screwfix for about a tenner. Rigid straight extension peices also available if you’re a few inches short

Why do we call them soil pipes and not poo pipes?

In all seriousness because there is no pressure in them they are pretty forgiving in terms of leaks and bodging connectors together. 10mm will probably just flex.

If it’s strange that out the back, what’s there will probably work, but I’d use a new one if it’s of an age, as the seals tend to ‘fix’ in place and leak once disturbed.  I’d try it 1st to sort the geometry and then buy new if needed.

We actually do call it the poo pipe as it happens. 🙂

It’ll be nearly 20 years old, so I’ll not reuse the existing one as the seals probably won’t like the disturbance.
