The bloke who wrote the novel on which the film is based used to be my English teacher at comprehensive school.

    True dat.

It was ok. Clooney was my issue with it I think. I didn’t dislike it. But that’s about as positive as it gets.

The prostitute lady tickled my fancy.

It was a bit flat otherwise. Pity, because the ending deserved a better film.

I think Clooney gives a great understated performance

He’s a tired, jaded hitman and he plays it well

Violence aside, it’s a subtle, tense film

    +1

I think that’s George’s best role. I really liked the melancholy atmosphere and sense of loneliness. Funny touches like he orders a coffee “Americano”, sits in a bar where the music is “No Parlo Americano” etc.

(Been to the area where it was filmed (Abruzzo) and it’s a really under-explored spot for a holiday.)

It’s a funny one really because it appears to be one of those films that keeps me thinking about it for a while after it’s finished. On reflection I’m not sure GC was my issue with it. I think the loneliness of the story along with the bleak but beautiful scenery left me feeling a bit lonely and melancholic (great word btw). Waking up this morning I feel I enjoyed it a lot more than I did last night. Will keep an eye out for it being shown again.
I felt a similar sensation after I first watched the original ‘girl with the dragon tattoo’.

    One of my favourite films.

Another (Hannah) is on Sunday I think…

It’s one of the better films I have watched. In a world of megastar-infested blockbusters exploding with special effects, it’s a breath of fresh air. Yes, it’s bleak and quiet in places, but it’s well acted and beautifully shot.
