plus another 10% off and you’re at just £135.00 for the pair…. okay, so they are XT hubs rather than blingy Hopes and they are 15mm fronts, but what a deal!

    Cracking deal.

Sadly the XT hubs don’t look to be convertible 🙁

That’s ridiculous! I’m tempted to but a set ‘just in case’! 😀

you would surely only need a bush in there to fit a QR skewer …..tempting but not sure how safe that would be where is al when I need him?

Ask for them in an unbuilt fashion and flog the hubs!

How do you get the extra 10% off?

10% discount is automatically applied in your basket. 😉

ahhh, I was confused as to why It automaticaly took 5% off, I’m only after the rims.

    Righty, rims bought.

Njee20, what were those really light disk hubs you recomended?

Lazy question – anyone know off the top of their head if 15mm and 9mm xt hubs have the same dimensions? I’ve a spare qr M775 front hub and I figure for that money I could swap the front hubs – even cheaper option if I don’t need new spokes too!

TINAS – A2Z superlight – £135 from uk bike store 116g front and 228g rear. Potentially available cheaper elsewhere under a different name, but you’ll need njee for that.

Not heard of those hubs before – anyone used them?

Tempted to buy a set of 29 rims for the next project…

Tempted to buy a set of 29 rims for the next project…

When I put mine in my basket it said 1 left, so I’d get in there soon if I were you.

Quite fancy those A2Z’s, but theres 2 problems

The only anodising on my bike is blue, they don’t do blue.

My 29er’s a Swift, so it ain’t really light enough to justify them. And I cracked my last hope Pro2 (currently with hope being repaired under warrenty).

Will wait and see if njee pops his head over the parrapet again and see if he knows of a cheeper source.

Damn it…was planning to press the buy button on some shiney new hope hoops this weekend but this has thrown a spanner in the works.

Was planning to get pro 2s on Crests, thinking I could lose at least a pound off the anthems stock wheelset… so how do these compare?

Can I run 355s tubeless without the rim strips
From a quick google, xt hubs look significantly heavier than the hopes, can anyone confirm
I’m assuming that won’t be a set of double butted spokes they’re laced with?

    Decisions decisions…

Mines a Swift too – Sam has said on many occasions he thinks a light wheelset is as good/better than a light frame (I may be mis quoting a little there!) then posts the pic of the swift with Reynolds carbon tubs.

tpbiker- aye, 355s will work tubeless with just tape and valve, no rim strip needed.

Here’s some weights I measured on some 355 wheelsets I had which may or may not assist:
    Hope Pro2 (Hoop) with 355 Front: 765g
    Hope Pro2 (Hoop) with 355 Rear: 888g (1653g Both)
    29er 355/XT ’08 Front Wheel: 815g
    29er 355/XT ’08 Rear Wheel: 978g (1793g (Supercomp spokes))

355 are excellent rims…haven’t got the 29ers anymore but running the Hope Pro2/355 tubeless at the moment with just yellow tape

    Adding to nuke’s comment:

    Hope Pro3 XC3 with 355 Front is 675g + 96g for the 160 rotor.
    Hope Pro3 XC3 with 355 Rear is 805g + 96g for the 160 rotor.
    Hope XC3 180 rotor is 123g.

Rims include the Stans yellow rim tape and ‘black gaffer’ tape.

these “xt” hubs are probably M756 which are awful. really Deore level. at least that’s what Merlin gave me when i got my wheels from them years ago. i’m about to buy some Hope to get away from them, constant adjustment needed on shimano and freehub problems. never had to touch my hope wheel..

    thisisnotaspoon

    probably

Probably not, seeing as they were 15mm front hubs?

The old hubs were diferent to deore in a few ways, the freehubs were different, the seals were better and the flanges had holes cut out to save weight.

    Just ordered some A2Z hubs

    Rims 380g x2
    Hubs 350g (lpair)
Spokes 195g (est for 32 DB DT spokes 2.0/1.8 for a 700cc wheel on sheldon brown)
    1500g 🙂

ok, if its 15mm it’s at least M770? which is ok, if you like cup and cone hubs. i’d call Merlin and check though, QR rear could be anything. M756 was pretty bad, M756A is even worse – it’s even more m525 like (no rubbers seals, simplified axles.. check the tech docs! XT label is very misleading there imho). if its M770+ then sure it’s a good deal, so long as you’re ok with cup and cone maintenance.
i just felt conned (mostly by Shimano) because i got “xt” hubs from merlin and they have wasted my time and money, i’d steer (no pun intended) anyone away from them, probably towards cartridge bearing hubs unless you understand the difference.

I can confirm the Mavic converters (Northwind) work on XT 15mm hubs

Found these at Winstanleys. Mustard are these the ones you are after?

Does anyone know if the 20mm would fit a qr XT hub?

Merlin said they are M756 rear and M770 front. So, I’m out.

for anyone interested I got the 29ers and they are 756 rear and 758 front. I’m happy enough with that, if the hubs die I’ll rebuild them onto the spare 775’s I’ve got.

Thanks Dukeduvet they look like the ones I’m after, thought I’d looked there before but obviously not 🙂
