In case anyone near London hasn’t heard, there is a chance to go and view the internals of Battersea Power station this weekend before it is redeveloped:

Damn, I was in London a couple of weeks ago, shame it wasn’t happening then. I did go up the Shard, though.

My father grew up in Battersea. Shame he won’t be in London this weekend.

I was lucky enough to be given a tour round a few years ago and it’s well worth a visit, we went in through the ‘Directors’ entrance (all marble pillars and steps) and went up an amazing staircase, with the walls covered in art-deco mosaics of people dancing and drinking cocktails – somehow I can’t imagine taxpayers wanting to pay up for that sort of thing now! The remaining control room was awesome as well, like something out of a 50’s sci-fi movie, all seats surrounded by levers and dials, I remember one big switch that said ‘Greenwich – On/Off.’

    If you can go, go!

Apparently some of the redevelopment is named after me.

    Nice to know.
