Are there any that are not basically 4×4’s without a boot?

I like pickups but don’t want and SUV type thing

I occasionally lust after a Subaru Brat, but the ones that aren’t a rusty mess are silly money 🙁
I had a 86-ish era hilux when I was at uni, was an amazing bit of kit for rattling to and from riding and climbing adventures in.

Mazda B2500/B2000 don’t think there is a SUV version of them.

Was going to say L200, but then remembered there is an SUV model.

Something newer, maybe a Kia or Hyundai pickup?

    A Ute would be cool.

I had one of these as my first car – many fun memories of lugging the bike off for adventures.

You’re not wrong on the price of a “good” one now 😯

Hilux came in 2wd a few years ago, can’t think of any new pick ups that aren’t 4wd.

Presumed he was after more of a ‘ute’ than specifically being anti 4×4? A 2WD hillux isstill a big car.

Not that I can think of many 4×4 car derived pickups anyway, unless you get a P100 and a Sierra XR4x4 and start playing about…….http://passionford.com/forum/pictures-video-and-photoshop-forum/313059-p100-4×4-cosworth.html

    I’d love to have a Brat/brumby.

I’d settle for a Jumbuck with an EVO front end.

On the continent there are loads more options for small pick ups.

Not sure what you mean exactly. Many 4x4s are actually pickups WITH a boot.

Things like the Hilux are specifically made as pickups.

Not the clearest phrasing there Boba but from this I am assuming you want something different from a Range Rover/Taureg/X5 ? Might be an idea to clarify why.

Most pickups are quite different from most SUVs, not as refined, much more utilitarian. They generally run in 2wd and have select-able 4wd. Some share parts with their SUV stablemates but generally they are not the same. There’s a common misconception that “PICKUP X” is just “SUV Y” with the back chopped off. This is almost never the case.

Most manufacturers that have pickups in their range still offer 2wd variants at the bottom of the range.

One reason pickups are popular in America is they don’t need the same safety levels as normal cars saving about $2000 per vehicle. True story bro. Anyway, an old college friend built this over 25 years ago, used to be pink.
