Inspired in part by the “Up” thread and also because I have sod all else to do.

    Give us your perfect films.

Not neccesarily the highest rated or the most critically acclaimed but films that in your mind just couldn’t be improved upon.

I’ll start with “Back to the Future”

Do you have any idea how much I dislike agreeing with you? 😉

    Also;
Taxi. The original French version. Pure, unplug your brain fun!

For me (and this is of course personal) two stand out as perfect in execution:

    The Fifth Element
    Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon

Up, whilst excellent and moving, isn’t perfect. The pathos of the beginning takes a back seat whilst a kids’ movie takes over. Not that kids movies are bad but the change of tack gets it marked down *very slightly*

We are talking about perfect films, not films you really liked. You can love a flim that has flaws. Taxi (French) for example is hugely enjoyable but not a perfect film.

    Blazing Saddles

Apocolypse Now (The original – not the utterly pointless Redux, which just proves the whole ‘couldn’t be improved on’ point)

See as much as I love it I have to disagree. The pacing is a bit slow, plus it exists in more than one version.

I know I’m in the minority but, I’m going to say it:

Withnail and I and Apocalypse Now are the two films I have enjoyed the least, ever. I absolutely loathed them.

    There, I’ve said it.

In the sea of badly made crap that represents about 99.5% of the films made, why specifically didn’t you like these 2 fella?

The Blues Brothers and Highlander, both have excellent soundtracks that complement the films perfectly. Or maybe it should be the films complement the soundtracks perfectly. Can’t decide which.

    Oh yeah and Top Gun!

Withnail and I was a story of two unlikeable w@nkers not being funny in the Lake District (or wherever they were).

Apocalypse Now was just really, really dull.

amen and a bit too subtle for me, however it has produced one of my treasured memories. Mrs hadn’t seen it so thought I better show her one of the genre’s most acclaimed films.
Mrs, halfway through “I thought wesley snipes was in this”

A tricky one. Lots of ilms have been good for me, some even superb, but perfect? Tricky indeed. I’ll throw my hat in the ring with Apocalypse Now.

    Bladerunner comes close too.

To my shame I’ve never actually seen “The Princess Bride”

Die Hard, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Shawshank Redemption are all perfect film contenders
