I currently use paypal pools to collect money for the 5 a side football game I run, however paypal are removing the pools facility later in the month, so I could do with an alternative.

The advantage of pools over just having people put money into my paypal account is that we collect slightly more money each week than the pitch costs so that we can save up dosh for buying balls, bibs, and occasionally pay for a few rounds in the pub. Pools means that I don’t have to keep track of how much there is in the kitty.

So are there any good alternatives to pools out there? Preferably needs to free, not require signing up to contribute to, and be easy to keep track of who has paid for when, eg in pools you can leave a comment with your payment saying “teapot 20/8/21”, this is necessary rather than just using the date of payment as at least half the players are less than prompt at paying.

    Thanks!

Doubt there is anything else free. Some folk at work use Monzo cards which seemingly make it easy to do this sort of thing if you all have monzo but that won’t work for average users.

Anyone that isn’t a bank is going to have transaction costs. If you accept that they are probably something like 25p+2% you could add it in. You could even get a square or similar card payment thing for £30 ish which might make life easier and avoid/reduce nonpayers.

I’d just set up a Monzo account. You don’t need everyone to have Monzo, only one of you needs it. You can then send a payment request, split a bill or share a tab. Ie you’ll be able to do what you need from your description in a few different ways.

What’s wrong with cash? My running g club have a piggy bank, everyone drops a quid in whenever they show up, simple as it gets

Other just set up a PayPal account for your football team and everyone the sends that account some money via friends and family whenever they need to, it just needs an email address. I’m not sure what pools does that normal pp doesn’t?
