Actual name is for poseurs or seriously hot-shit riders/pro's

Nickname is for the more discerning, gentlemanly rider about town.

    'Phil' =bad
    'Philmeboots' or 'Philmeup' = good

Think I will just scratch it in there with a penknife

Ignore the haters, he will be well chuffed at the kind thought. Local sign writers should be able to help 🙂

Marker pen then lacquer over it!

Hmmm, I have indeed thought about this but I don't always want to be recognised. It's a bit like having a tattoo isn't it? I decided against that in the end, a woman likes to change her mind … frequently. 🙄

I put a head badge on a bike by just printing the design out on ordinary paper, cutting it out and decoupage-ing it on with lacquer.

    Looked a bit shit mind!

We've got some silver labels at work. I could do you a couple. Not sure how durable though, might need lacquering.

    Why? Seriously?

I was going to do that but instead I just changed my name by deed poll to 'Shimano XT powered by Sram Rockshox Fox'
Bit of a mouthful and a complete bugger when writing a cheque but boy does it feel good when everyone at the local trail centre has your name on their bike 😉

If you stick your forum name on, the scrote who steals your bike won't twig it's not part of the bike's name.

Then when he advertises it on eBay, you/we will recognise it 🙂

Now I've thought of that, I'm going to do it too.

A long time ago, I simply printed out a name on A4 then carefully copied in enamel paint before doing the laquer job on an ex-girlfriend's bike (while she was still my girlfriend).

…so if anyone comes across a Saracen steel frame carefully sprayed in a blue-purple fade with "project one" on the downtube, it's nicked, Leicester circa 1998. Good luck with it. I was careful with the lettering, I have a pretty steady brush hand!

Your girl friend's name was Project One?

Let me guess what the next one was called. How many Projects did you need before you hit on the winning formula?

Sticking your name on your top tube is a good idea, but you just need to be a bit more sutle about it.
    Try names like:

    Roger York Hunt
    Martha Farker

    Now thats more like it.

I thought about this, but it was less hassle just to change my name to match the bike.

Unfortunately I've got more than one bike – and Zesty Froggy Handjob makes me sound like a member of the Monster Raving Looney Party.

LOL at that comment.. My stepfather kind of nudged me in the direction of signwriting when I was a lad… He had a bit of a talent for it and did it as a sideline..
he was trying to channel my enthusiasm for painting on walls and trains in a more positive direction..

Imagine both our joys when the advent of the vinyl transfer virtually destroyed the signwriting industry overnight..

    sorry for the hi-jack and self-pitying mini-rant

These guys are who the pro's use.

I would highly recommend them if you want it done properly, but obviously its a little more expensive than the DIY/ebay option.
