I’ve got a week just me and my 8yr old (daughter.) It’s the last week of October heading into November so weather likely to be bloody awful.

Trying to decide what to do for that week. Would like to do something to make it a bit more memorable than pottering around at home… which is fine, she’s happy with that, but it’s good to do something a bit more exciting!

Other half terms we’ve done Haven holiday and also Dirt School up at Glentress (would do this again but it’s currently not running that week 👎)

We have use of a camper van …

    Current thoughts are

    1) stay at home, days out, trips to trail centre etc

    2) few days somewhere like Glentress for more exciting riding – likely cold/wet, possibly need to invest in thermal wrap for Pop top

    3) adventure further afield like up to Skye or something – possible bonkers weather?

    4) Haven – seems a surprisingly expensive week. We went 1st week of June, but the week in October is twice the price in some cases which makes me not want to pay it

    4) drive to Europe somewhere – got to get there from NW England, weather still going to be a bit crap?

    5) all inclusive somewhere like canaries – bit extravagant!! But currently tempting as I’ve still not properly warmed up yet this summer! Currently looks to cost nearly £2k for that week which I can’t really justify – but possibly could be talked into it 🤔

Don’t really have to do anything in particular, just fishing for ideas really. It’s not a post divorce, who’s the best parent situation, we just have a couple of weeks in the year where half-terms don’t match between my wife’s school and my daughter’s 😜

Not looking to be told what to do, but hit me up with some ideas for a potentially cold, dank, dismal October half term!

Edit – I’ve just looked at centre parcs, it’s cheaper to go for 7 nights all inclusive in turkey/Egypt/canaries than it is to go self catering in Cumbria or Sherwood for 4 😱

I’ve enjoyed staying at youth hostels with my kids – our favourite being Rosthwaite. It’s well connected by bus to Keswick, there are a range of walking options of varying difficulty, good cycling (Borrowdale bash – either in full or in part) and Whinlatter isn’t far (which also has Go Ape). Keswick has a swimming pool and a cinema for rainy days. Rosthwaite youth hostel also has a bar and serves food (edit: and has pool and table tennis tables). We’ve used a range of accommodation types there, but out of season you can often get a good deal on a two person room.

4 nights at the centre parcs in Penrith for 5-600 for the last week in October. If she’s 8 there’s likely lots for her to do and hours to be had in the swimming pool.

I had a look before posting and those priced have as good as doubled in the last day!
