Saw them in early ‘94 and didn’t really like them. Never understood their mass appeal. Zeitgeist and FHM lad culture was riding high then. Think maybe they rode that wave. However, many, many people love them, including my son and daughter (21 and 20).

Much preferred Weezer around then.

Also, arguably, Taylor Swift started in the tail end of the CD era. Red and 1989, the albums that turned her into a star with appeal outside country music, were released in 2012 and 2014.  Spotify launched in the US in 2011, and didn’t become popular for a few years after that.  Personally, I was buying music digitally on iTunes, which is much like buying a CD without the physical object, or the need to visit a shop.  You still had a record collection then, it was just inside your computer / iPod, rather than on your shelves.

Say what you like, those first 2 albums were something else. If they play the hits it will be good. Bit of swagger, bit of singalong at the end, everyone will love it. I’ll give it a miss though, I’m more Blur lol.

To be fair as a student I was pretty obsessed with The Doors (and still am a huge fan). Also used to like The Beatles, Rolling Stones and the Monkees! Would’ve happily gone to see those if they reformed (indeed would’ve preferred it if the Stones had split up and reformed!).

So todays news is probably great for young fans but like many others here ..I saw them back in the day (and they were often pretty dull if Liam didnt kick off) so wont be bothering now.

In defence of the crowds, having lived near Hampden Stadium for a while and seeing the different crowds, by far the worst for drunkenness, violence and anti social behaviour were the middle aged women attending Take That or Pink concerts. Absolutely horrific.

Absolutely. I was born in 78 and grew up with my dad’s huge vinyl collection. Music featured highly in our house growing up, There was never silence. Always something on the turntable. I was obsessed with the stones, the who, yes, neil young, hendrix, clapton, led zep etc from a very young age, and that love for them never left me even when I got into much more modern stuff in my 16 to 25 years

Not interested until Nirvana reform.

The Beatles were pretty popular during the Britpop era, for obvious reasons. I certainly listened to them.

Anyway, I loved Oasis BITD, but the last time I saw them was Glastonbury 2004 and they were rubbish.

Liam Gallagher is living in this area at the mo in a big country pad. Local paper recently – ‘Stroud man reforms Oasis’..

I always liked them. Watched ‘Yesterday’ the other week, particularly good bit was when the main character is realising what else is missing from culture since the blackout.. “Oasis?” “yeah, that figures..” : )

Liked them in the 90s as most people seemed to as everyone just got swept along in a tide of Brit Pop. As the years have gone on though, I’ve come to dislike their music more and more and start to appreciate the bands who never got as much exposure at the time far more. What would I rather do, pay a million pounds to go and see Oasis stood about 100m away playing some Beatles covers in a massive stadium full of dickhead wannabes or go and see someone like Echobelly/Sleeper/Bluetones etc in a tiny venue where tickets cost £20 and you can get a decent beer etc. That reminds me, Echobelly tour tickets on sale tomorrow morning 🙂

*Should add that I saw one of their last gigs together before they split and they were pretty average then. Can’t imagine 15 years of churning out even worse solo crap has done anything for them.

Yes, there are some similarities at times, but there is not a single song (that I am aware of) where I can say ‘yep, that’s just a rip off of [insert Beatles song name]’. Surely bands are allowed to be influenced by other bands they admire?

Sabbath, Maiden, Motorhead, AC/DC, Hendrix… I’d have been keen to see any one of them.

I have never understood the attraction to Oasis or their music, but this will give plenty of people a chance to see them which will hopefully be good. Seems like at least one of them needs a bit of cash so I really do hope that they  will make an effort to be as good as they can be now rather than just go through the motions.

Having been a massive Oasis fan when I was younger I’ve had a few text this morning from friends and family asking if I’ll be trying to get tickets. My general response is:

“I’m tempted, but then also think it will be a disappointment. Some things are probably best left in the past as good memories of a different time. And ticket prices – when we last saw them in 2005 it was £35 for a ticket. Probably £150+ now.”

I was too young to be see them live in the eary/mid 90’s. I think the first time I saw them was about 2001/2002 when Liam was getting his teeth knocked out in Germany. Also, I just don’t think I can be arsed with all the effort and cost (travel, hotels, etc..) to stand in a stadium full of dickheads throwing pints of piss just to destroy those earlier memories.

I was at Knebworth in 1996. While that was a great gig, not sure I would want to see the middle age versions. Especially not for north of £100 for bog standard tickets.

The only gig I have ever seen a proper fight at was oasis, at a spanish festival no less, brits drinking on an empty head, Spanish couldn’t believe it. You get thrown out having paid for a festival ticket.

Tbh they’re as much a Slade tribute band as a Beatles one.

Saw them at the 100 Club back in 1994 (£6 a ticket – those were the days!).  They were supported by Whiteout who we thought were better…

I was there too, I’m very tempted to try and get tickets as ^ that was the only time I’ve seen Oasis, and although I loved them as well it was indeed rubbish.

That’s the one! They were really flat, maybe they had a row before going on stage. They certainly didn’t look like they wanted to be there.

The first Manchester genre I came across was Stone Roses, many many years ago.

At that time I thought this sort of Manchester genre was modern British folk songs (yes, I did), while I had no clue of most of the lyrics, I just thought they were all mumbling about some displeasure … something like that.

Then there were Oasis Vs Blur something like that but I never knew that was a thing.
