After a basic campsite to see the sights. Lindisfarne, Bamburgh and Berwick etc at Easter.

Much prefer the basic – no caravans, cheap, few if any facilities (bog and a cold tap type) campsite,

only one real need, to be near a good real ale pub.

I know no many sites like this exist any more but I don’t know the area so help……

racking my brains for you – but living here you dont pay attention to camp sites much…

Goswick maybe, Budle Bay, Warrenford try them. Seashouses and Beadnell best avoided as mostly with caravans.

Not sure about real ale either being a non drinker – in fact dont know why I have replied lol

    Cheers for the try……

The caravan and campsite site the north end of Beadnal strangely doesn’t take caravans, the Craster Arms is nice but I can’t remember what booze they do http://crasterarms.co.uk/

Beachcomber campsite to the north of Lindisfarne would be perfect (cheap/basic) closed last season, but the nearest place to drink would be the golf course club house http://www.beachcomber-campsite.co.uk/

The best real ale pub on the coast is this one http://www.shipinnnewton.co.uk/ but there’s no campsite nearby, unless you bivi

I would imagine you’d get some sense out of….

    if you rang them?

Alnmouth/Alnwick is a good area, great pub in Alnmouth, ‘The Hope & Anchor’ best chips in the solar system & IIR some local booze.

pffft “the ship” – wont see any locals in there nor the new Joiners up the road.

Try the Greys in Embleton – mate owns it – cracking little pub.

    Apple Inn – Lucker
Masons Arms and Three Horse Shoes – Rennington

+1 for the Apple Inn at Lucker (about 3-4 miles from the sea) and Craster Arms at Beadnell
is great, close to campsite and sea across the road!

Ok you have some options, we love camping holidays in Northumberland.

We stay at the Dunstan Hill Camping and caravan Club site near Embleton. Its not a basic site and can get a bit busy. However there are quite a few pubs within walking distance, I recommend this…
http://www.shipinnnewton.co.uk/ The walk to the pub is good too, down the woods, and over fields to the beach and along the beach for about 2 km. Also Grey’s inn in Embleton does great food (mmm steak) and is very reasonable. It also is a short walk over some fields to Embleton. Dunstan also has a pub which looks nice but never been in. There is also another campsite a Proctor steads near Dunstan. Near by either by foot or bike is the Fishing village of Craster with a Pub and a fish smoke house.
Anyway I could go on for ages, there are other campsites in the area but we loved Dunstan Hill so much we have been going for the past 3 years in a row 😀 Ask for a pitch near the field that way you have a nice view and more space. It can get very busy and you should book well in advance. Don’t be put off by it being busy, the camping field has a nice feel and its very family orientated and quiet at night as all the kids are worn out by all beach fun! Oh also check out Dunstaburgh castle again just a walk from the campsite.
Also good biking in Thrunton woods just 12km west of Alnwik ask the guys in

Right that is quite enough, sorry for going on a bit. Good luck and have fun 😀

Thanks all – but I really am looking for back to basics I’ll go mad otherwise…… At Easter people will bring a trampoline, tv and a pool otherwise.

    Is it possible?

    Ok

http://www.budlebaycampsite.co.uk/ is not really walking distance of pubs but not far from the ones mentioned above. The Ship at Newtown is very nice there’s no real local get in it because the square it sits in is all holiday cottages. They do their own ales on site now but I’ve not tried them, I must do a ride up there.

http://www.southmeadows.co.uk/camping.php has touring caravans in it but if I remember the site itself is fairly basic but modern. It’s near Belford which has a few pubs.

Dunstan Hill near Alnmouth again does tourers but the camping side is simple and it’s walking distance to Alnmouth. -Edit just come off nights so had fuzzy, it’s not walking distance to Alnmouth at all.

Beadnel campsite is similar in does tourers but it is very basic, you can walk into Beadnel or Seahouses from there.

I’ve stayed at the one just North of Beadnell a few times. Lovely view out to sea, easy walking distance to Craster Arms, a chippy/pizza takeaway and a post office/general stores plus a great beach.

The only downside is it’s usually got a gale force wind that starts just as you try to pitch your tent which then disappears as soon as it’s up.

The Craster Arms is a decent pub with typical pub grub at fair prices and good beer. If the sun comes out it has a huge beer garden too.

Is this the one just north of Beadnell you’re on about?

On that link it’s the empty field with a building in it and a couple of strips of tarmac by where the middle B1340 label is.

The only real downside of the place is the fact it’s by a road but otherwise it’s fine.
