    Nissan Primera 1998,
    a p12 – the 2nd model in a series of 3 (I think).

I want to use the lighter socket for sat nav and for charging things, but the manual for the car says the lighter socket should never be in use if the vehicle is moving or engine on. Is this just a health and safety issue to make sure you keep your eye on the road rather than messing about, or is there a technical reason?

I am being very cautious here, as I have had a lighter blow a fuse before in a different vehicle and it was a right pain to replace + we could not use the car until we sorted it.

Anyone actually used the lighter socket in a Primera for charging etc?

It's fine for powering other things

I have a 97 almera and use the lighter socket quite often whilst driving, some of the time for a sat nav

Most lighter sockets in older cars are for lighters only, short spells of power use, so modern cars dont have lighter sockets but points for charging/powering satnav/phones etc with a bigger amp loading.

So does this mean I can run low powered things for short periods of time?
