It seems like the port my mesh router is plugged into on my old NETGEAR ProSafe GS116 switch will degrade in performance over time.  I wonder if it might be a heat issue.

I can just swap the cable to another spare port and it’s all fine for a while, sometimes days, sometimes hours, sometimes a month+.  Rinse and repeat.

So, probably time for a new switch? Needs to be at least 1o port (so probably a 16?), unmanaged (no requirements to manage my network traffic) and at least gigabit.  Do I need to look any further than replacing like for like?

If it’s unmanaged do you need to pay the premium for Netgear? 🤔 TP-Link or even some no-brand off Amazon would probably do the job just as well 🤷‍♂️

Good point. If that’s the case, cheaper sounds good!

Would having Power over Ethernet be useful for powering cameras, access points etc?

If not then you can get a decent unmanaged 16 port switch for just over £50.

I bought a router from TP-Link which is managed via their Omada cloud controller. It has been reliable and problem free so I would probably go with one of their switches. I would probably get one with PoE and cloud management but that’s because I’m a network geek.

No use for PoE at the moment, but yeah, maybe a useful future proofing option. I guess, also 2.5G falls into that bracket.

I’m usually a sucker for future proofing and up selling!

    In that case: Ubiquiti UniFi

Bog standard switch I’ve found TP-LINK to be fine, although as above I will be getting something from Ubiquiti when the new fibre arrives next week.
