As above. Going into the forest today with some friends. They want a nice clearing for a picnic spot to play rounders, frisbee etc.

Dont want to take them anywhere that is a designated picnic spot as it’ll be heaving. Any hidden gems I should go for?

Thinking Canada, Nomansland or Minstead so far but open to any idea. Good pub nearby would be handy too! So anywhere near Bank or Fritham…

    No biking involved… 🙁

    (better late than never):

Guessing that Fritham (and therefore the pub) will be rammed but there is a sort of clearing somewhere up above the path that runs between the duck pond and the 3078 – you follow deer up through the woods and, magically, there it is. It’s pretty close to the pub & pond though & lots of people might find it. It’s on a slope & not massive – any big hitters in the rounders squad?
(We’ve only been in winter & it was wet but I don’t think it’s a bog. the kids remember it as a fantastic place, I can’t harldy rememebr it at all)

Canada common’s nice enough (& spacious for your rounders) – haven’t been to the Rockingham arms for ages though

Shepherd’s gutter, near bramshaw ? QUiet carpark usually. Great beck for you to prat about in, bit of woodsy walking and some clearings. Bramble hill hotel just up the road (never been in, presume it has a bar)

    have a nice day

    Thanks Scaredypants!

Went to Canada Common. Loads of space, surprisingly quiet, rounders bat shattered after first bowl (!) but we made friends with a baby donkey instead. Day saved. Rockinghams Arms is now ‘The Rockingham’. Trendy modern/posh makeover. Again was very quiet, they’ve made a nice job of it but its not very … foresty…!

Thats the summary. Cheers for the advice…

    Pete.
