New DT SWISS rims — sealant problems?

I replaced my wheels lately.

The back on is giving me tubeless issues.

Can tires get damaged? It’s sitting on the rim perfectly, no leaks save for one area.

Around the bead, I do notice there’s a slight bulge. Can beads get damaged (a massive rock strike wrote off the last wheel, but I thought the tire would be okay!).

Likewise, does old sealant lose its sealing power? Cos I transferred that over and the stuff in before was pretty old.

Any ideas? The rim itself looks perfect.

Sounds like a damaged tyre bead, especially since you whalloped it hard enough too kill the last wheel.

If possible I’d fit a ‘control’ tyre that you know works and see if that leaks, if not then you know they tyre’s at fault. If they both leak in the same place there could be something up with the rim.

Actually, there’s two spots with rim leaks and a tire knob that spurts out sealant under any serious pressure.

I’ve put loads of sealant in, so will just leave the wheel to sit for a few hours and hopefully I can top it up and it will seal.

Sounds like you have pinch punctured the tyre, sometimes called snake bite, which is common if you have damaged the rim also. The pressure between the ground and the rim cuts through the tire.

If it was just spurting by a tyre knob you may be able to seal it with a tubeless repair product such as a worm or mushroom. As it is leaking from the rim in two places it’s possible there are holes here too, they can be sealed in the same way but to be honest I only treat those repairs as temporary.

Unfortunately it may be new tyre time.
