I think with summer rubber and a lighter dropper, I could shave another 450g from the build, so another 1lb.

Looks very nice indeed, I’m genuinely surprised by the weight given it’s a pretty sensible build (admittedly there’s some £ for lb gear on there but nothing stupid by the looks)

It’s the bench seat in the kitchen – it’s where we all sit to remove muddy shoes, etc. TBH – with 2 kids, the back of our sofa is probably dirtier than anything the MTB could do to it.

Used – although there is a Large Spur in stock somewhere in the country and it’s still at last years (this years?) prices. I bought the full bike and have sold what I didn’t want (SRAM, Renthal, Specialized, Maxxis, etc) and added what I did (King, Enve, Oneup). Some of this was done because I prefer things, but a lot was done to quiet down the aesthetic at the same time. There was just too much going on.

These are some of the first new (from a shop) components I’ve ever bought in my 18 years of MTBing. My Last full suspension bike was bought second hand over 7 years ago.

Spur looks awesome. If I lived somewhere less rocky and rode with more finesse I’d have one in a heartbeat. Very nice.

Fairly sure I could prove you wrong on this, every bike I’ve ever ridden(or will) its just a varying degree of slow.

I keep looking at spur’s as a potential replacement for my aged smuggler.

£4.6k for that spec is about half-price – how did you manage that?

Second hand bike with a decent spec, stripped what I didn’t want and then scoured the world for what I did. Hubs from the US, HS from Japan, BB from Spain, Rims from PB/China, Spokes from Belgium, Rotors from Australia. Tyres, K-edge mount, valves, stem, bars, brakes from the UK. The rims weren’t the ideal aesthetic – I don’t like the white and can’t remove it, but will later cover it with a gloss black decal and otherwise the spec was perfect. I was also lucky in that the colour of things I wanted was both in-stock and not that popular, so discounted. Everything I bought with the exception of the valves was discounted by at least 30%, even the brakes.

Nobody weighs with pedal on them. Bikes aren’t supplied with pedals and so their quoted weights are without them.

Anyway – Time Atac XC8s will add around 330g to the build, so 11.47kg. There will also be lights and a bell 😉

I would love a Spur, but for some reason, I’d want to try a coil shock and stick a smashpot in a pike if I was doing it.

Amazing build, and also amazing how cheap you did it for.

I think my GX build with carbon wheels and bar weighs 12.4kg with pedals so your build is seriously light too.

I still rate mine, it’s now the second best bike I’ve ever had (Element that has replaced it is better, mostly because it fits me better) & I ran mine with a Pike & a non piggyback Deluxe Utlimate which was a sizeable improvement on the SID stuff (and I got bored of having to warranty the shock, evidently so did SRAM as they sent me the DU rather than another SID.

Admittedly mine regularly saw trails it didn’t have any business on, but that’s a testament to how good it was as a bike. I’m not a fan of the original suspension, but I expect it’s probably fine for most people.

@HobNob – I’ve also had issues with the SIDluxe and my local riding is pretty tame. I think it’s just a badly designed shock.

Planning on upgrading to a Fox 34 / DPS combo or Ohlins setup when I have some spare funds. Quite happy to take the small weight penalty.

That’s lovely. Lusted after a Spur when they were first announced and I was still riding my Tallboy 3 – looked like the perfect replacement. A couple of years later and I still lust after one, despite settling on geometry that I know suits me better than a Spur, even in XL, would.

Top work on the build for that price too.

Well, I think that’s a moot point. Some people do clearly weigh without pedals to get the “industry standard” figure as a point of comparison.

Lovely bike and spec. I’m fortunate enough to also own a lightweight Spur. Its a pleasure to ride. The suspension seems to cope so well considering its only 120mm each end. I actually really like the SID stuff, but am very aware of the issues people have with the fork bushings. Mine fortunately ok at the moment. Fingers crossed. Might be down to the amount of use, as its my 3rd bike and they all get ridden – I do try to save the Spur for the drier days and look after it a bit more due to the cost! SIDluxe is a little squelchy, but seems to work ok when peddling, so I ignore that 🙂
I have tried to keep mine as light as possible, whilst being capable. carbon bars/cranks/KS carbon dropper, DTSwiss 391/240exp hubs/rekon tanwall, xt 12s, Cura2. Its 25.5lb and feels rapid. A real pleasure to ride, especially on the longer days in the saddle
