So, here is the deal: My local tracks get covered in nettles at this time every year. Since it is on Danish MOD land, I am not allowed to have a go at them with a strimmer, which means that I usually just wear long socks and get used to the occasional tingling feeling of pain.
Somehow, my favorite pair of footie socks has given up the ghost after just 15 years of use. And now I wonder: Should I just buy a new pair of footie socks, or is there any point in buying long compression socks?
Do compression socks even work, anyway?
I have a few pairs of these which kind of (depending on your foot and leg size) act as compression socks. They feel very comfortable and protect against stings

Most compression socks are pretty thin material. Probably not really nettle proof, and could get torn easily.
I'd go for cheap football socks if you want something to protect your legs.
Even my cheap compression socks are thicker than my footy socks and the better ones are significantly thicker. If you can find decently thick footy ones they I wouldn't bother spending the extra.
I'm not sure whether they work to be honest. I find my legs feel more tired during use but don't ache as much after and I think there's evidence to suggest just using them for recovery.
Well, just so happened that I found a pair of Craft cycling compression socks on offer, so no harm done in giving them a go.
Thanks for your help!
The people I run with say that the long compression socks are useless against nettles - go with what you know.
