  • Need a challenge for next year… suggestions?

This year I’ve done LEJOG (on road), C2C (off-roadish), a few 100 mile+ sportives and a couple of the big 12/24 hour races.

I need something to challenge, inspire and excite me for next year.

Road or off-road, single or multiday. Not La Ruta (too scary), TransRockies (riding partner done it), TransWales (too Welsh) or the Marmotte (doing that 2012).

I can think of Tour of Cyprus, Cape Epic, TransAlp, Etape du Tour…

    What else is there?

John o’Groats to Lands End offroad?

Or just get map(s) and ride from home (offroad where able) as far as possible in a week?

Paris roubaix? I was going to say the Etape as well.

Did you do the 12/24 hour races solo?

We had a great time riding ventoux 3 times in one day, then went down to alp d’huez to ride the thursday morning time trial they do there. And you can do a bit of col bagging in between, or take the mountain bike as well. Makes it a bit more relaxed.

Megavalanche? I’m a fairly jey trail rider and am doing it next year.

I heard of someone planning to ride all the UK’s navigable waterways once.
About 2000 to 3000 miles depending on whether you just count the main canal network or include all the disjointed bits of river as well.
Good choice if you don’t like hills. 😉

I am seriously considering the Tour Divide if I can spare the time off…

Some good suggestions (apart from the chemistry, though I have grade A A-level, from the time when A-levels were hard…). Thanks, keep them coming!

I’ve done 12 hour solos, 24 doesn’t appeal at the moment.

    Stay on for a week….
Paris-Roubaix sportive on Saturday, watch the race on Sunday

In both cases, do the full edition (c260km each).

Why not calm down and do a nice long MTB tour in Scotland.

Waderider – don’t worry, I tend to do a week of relaxing/holiday riding every year.

Sarn Helen? Not heard of that… (off to google)

You should reconsider the TransWales – it’s a great event.

My usual Flanders riding buddy is heading out for both next year.

Mrs North and I have just had a baby, so there’s no way I can get the miles in between now and then or use up valuable holidays riding my bike (what a *crazy* idea that would be..!).

Cristalp is the hardest race I’ve ever known, been doing it for the past few years but for next year its the Transvesubienne for me, based on it being new and a more technical race.

Thanks everyone – so much choice. I’ve even thought of one by myself – RAAM! I’ll need a few friends though.

I’ll do that if you do my organic and inorganic labs (only 12 hours a week for 10 weeks!) 😛
