Managed to pick this up to commute on.

Needs a front mech which should be here today and I’m ready to rip.

It’s in pretty good condition to be honest. Maybe needs a new seat.

    What do you think ?

    Cheers.

    Ruined it how ?

Seat post height not set in the pics gents.

It’s a lot lower in real life.

    Better picture……

Seat is about 5 cm lower than shown.

Look at the state of the bars/stem, and you’re saying you’ve moved the seat lower = even moar ruined.

STIs are pointing at the sky, looks wrong but if you like em like that it’s fair enough.

Front wheel/qr in wrong way round.

Yeah I prefer QR on the none drive side on all my bikes, easier to remember which way round none disc front wheels go in, dunno if this is a “Rule” tho.

Needs guards for commuting IMO but yeah nice that.

Just over 6 foot ton. Long torso.

I really do have no idea why I’ve apparently ruined it. All I’ve done is set the seat height. Not touched stem and bars ?????

    EDIT…. DONK what are sti’s ??????

renton – I understand why you keep looking for answers on this forum, but sooner or later you need to look inside yourself for the answers – only you know how the bike fits you and if it is comfortable etc. Have some confidence in your own ability to set your bike up how you like and don’t feel like you need to conform to a certain standard.

Looks spot on for the job that does.

You could do with rotating the bars forward and, being a bit silly here, flipping the stem and slamming it as well. But really, just rotate the bars and it’ll be fine.

Ah right I’m getting it now, you lot are on about bar rotation and the brake levers sticking up.

You do realise that it’s a second hand bike that I only picked up last night and that maybe bar and stem position is set up for the previous owner.

Nice one lads thanks for the help ??????

When do we get a pic of you on the bike for the ultimate lolz?

    OK, well-

The saddle nose is pointing slightly down, tipping your weight forward.
The stem is the wrong way up for a road bike (though some may say do what you want with this…)
The bars are rotated a long way up, pushing the weight back that you’re putting forwards because of the saddle pointing down.
There is a lot of seatpost sticking out and a lot of stem. Which implies that the frame is not the right size.
The front wheel QR is on the wrong side.
There are still reflectors on the wheels.

Also, is that a bell on the bars?

Stem is v long and pointing up, bars pointed skywards (prob due to former)

Lovely bikes though, ride well if you don’t add racks (like I had to).

    Munro biker.

    Thanks for that.

Rather than taking the piss why didn’t you just point that out the in the first place.

I’ve set the seat post and its a lot lower than in the pictures, looks weird to me now as I have a long post on my mtb.

I’ve not touched the stem or bars but you are right they do look high and I will sort this out when I get chance to ride it.

There is a bell on the bars, from previous owner. Ditto the reflectors.

Oh and I’ve turned the front wheel round now.

The saddle nose is pointing slightly down

    looks level to me

The stem is the wrong way up for a road bike

    hmm

You do realise that it’s a second hand bike that I only picked up last night

Not obvious in the OP and waiting on a F mech sounds like you built it up yourself. Set it up how you like it renton and then come back for more criticism if you really want. TBH I’d just set it up and ride, if you have issues then come back – but be prepared for some people to take the piss. If you’re going to be using shared use paths I’d keep the bell.

    Cheers donk.

    Bell is staying.

Velo 42 mudguards don’t fit so need to.save for some new ones.

    It’s not a bad bike for £30 I guess.

The stem does look long and upward pointed but you may prefer it that way, try it in a few positions (point up and down, slammed and at the top) and see what works for you. My suspicion if you’re all legs is that you’ll want it lower and may perhaps need a shorter stem but that is wild and unsubstantiated speculation based on nothing at all.

There is a bell on the bars, from previous owner. Ditto the reflectors.

Leave them there, for a commuter bike both are worth having in my eyes.

    Edit

    It’s not a bad bike for £30 I guess.

£30??? that is phenominal value, that a wonderful bike for that.

If I’m honest renton I think you seem like you could be one of a few people who could benefit from going and having a bike fit done, especially as it’s your first road bike. Based on your previous bikes you seem to be a very funny shape and like an unusual riding position.

I would say it’s time to go and see a professional and get some proper advice about how to make that bike fit you. It will cost you an extra £50 or so, plus some for a stem, but compare that to however many years sat in the wrong position, being uncomfortable and swapping and changing stems and bars every few months and it works out as good value.

Edit: £30! Well done. In which case you should definitely be able to find £50 for a bike fit.

    Cheers lunge.

I have a 32.5 inch inside leg and have a slightly longer torso

Edit…. munrobiker, I’m going to play around with it to start with and if I can t get it set up comfy I will get a bike fit.

    Keep reflectors, pedals and bell.

Rotate bars so they are almost horizontal with the ground at their lowest point which will bring the shifters down. Leave the shifters where they are on the bars unless they are a problem in their new position. If you need to move them on the bars, get some black bar tape whilst you are at it.

Put the QR on whatever side you like.

Ok so this is where we are now ……

Saddle at right height and bars rotated.

The stem is probably to high but will ride it and see.
